OREM, Utah — Utah Valley dropped both games of its Friday doubleheader to the Tarleton State Texans, falling 4-0 and 15-1 at Wolverine Softball Field.
Reigning WAC Freshman of the Year and preseason WAC Pitcher of the Year Shelby Schultz looked every bit the part, throwing a complete game shutout in game one before the Texan bats rallied for 11 runs over the final three frames in game two.
GAME ONE
The Texans scored two in the third and two in the fourth to score all their runs. An error in the fourth aided in the rally, as Tatum Hall's throw home with the bases loaded was out of the reach of Mya Higareda, allowing both runs to score.
Schultz took a perfect game into the fourth before Hall roped a two-out single through the right side. Utah Valley had its best scoring chance in the fifth after Angelique Mann singled and stole second, but she would be stranded there.
GAME TWO
The Wolverines got on the board first in game two via an Emma Haygood RBI single. TSU immediately took the lead, rallying for two in the second and never looking back.
After the Texans took a 4-1 lead after three, UVU had its best chance to get back in the fourth. Haygood walked and Megan Sterzer roped a double to right center to lead off the inning, but the Wolverines were unable to capitalize.
Tarleton State rallied for three in the fifth and eight in the seventh to pull away late.
The Wolverines will look to salvage a game in the series tomorrow afternoon on Senior Day. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. MDT, and the game will be streamed live on ESPN+. The Senior Day ceremony will take place postgame.
