OREM, Utah – Utah Valley's Naia Tanuvasa has been named to the athlete pool for the American Samoa National Women's Basketball team as they search to earn a spot in the 2028 Los Angeles Summer Olympic Games.

Tanuvasa will be a junior in the upcoming 2026-2027 season and joined the Wolverines for the 2025-2026 season, where she played in 28 games and set UVU's single-game steals record with nine against La Sierra, where she added seven assists and two blocks.

She had a standout prep career at Highland's Lone Peak High School, where she led the Knights to three Utah 6A State Championships and four region titles. Tanuvasa earned first-team All-State as a senior after scoring 14.5 PPG and grabbing six boards per game. When not on the court, she excelled on the pitch, earning Provo's Daily Herald Soccer Player of the Year in 2024.

American Samoa last medaled at the 2019 Pacific Games, where they earned gold after taking home silver in 2007 and 2015. If they were to qualify for the Olympics, it would be the first-time ever that the nation has entered a women's basketball team in the international tournament.
