Participated in cross country and track and field at Highland High School (Ariz.)… ranked eighth in the nation in the 1600m as a high school senior with a personal record of 4:07... helped squad finish as Golden League champions… also posted a personal best in the 800m with a time of 1:54 during his final year at Highland.

Son of Jeff and Jennie Smith… his father competed in track in field at Utah Valley in the school’s junior college era… majoring in English education ... served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Fort Worth, Texas (2017-19).
