Chris Shane enters his fourth year as assistant coach under the direction of head coach Scott Houle. Shane brings a wealth of knowledge to the program, with thirteen years of NCAA coaching and recruiting experience on his resume.
A local product of Mountain View High School, Shane led the bruins to multiple state championships. An All-State performer and team captain, Shane won the Region Cross Country Championship his senior year, helping the team win the state title the following week in dramatic, tie-breaking fashion over Nationally ranked Bingham High School.
Shane hails from a strong tradition of elite distance running. Son of Hall of Fame coach Patrick Shane, who built a distance running legacy at BYU during his 36-year career, Chris began his coaching career in 2008 as his father’s assistant. In 2012, Shane accepted an offer from head coach, Helen Lehman-Winters, to assist her at the University of San Francisco. While there, the men’s and women’s teams experienced record-setting success with multiple conferences champions, national qualifiers, and All-American nominations. Shane would go on to use this valuable experience as a Head Coach at Eastern Washington where he would continue his trend of coaching and mentoring student athletes to success inside and outside of the classroom.
Shane received a Bachelor of Science from Brigham Young University in Exercise and Wellness (2012) and will finish a master’s degree in Education with an emphasis in Higher Educational Leadership later this year. Chris lives in Orem, Utah and continues to challenge himself in ultramarathon competitions and other endurance challenges. He is joined in life by his wife Amy. Amy, an expert in corporate health and wellness for over a decade, graduated from the University of Utah. Chris and Amy have two dogs Baxter and Bo.
