Mike Wilton enters his second season of coaching on Coach Atoa's staff at Utah Valley in 2018. Wilton brings a wealth of knowledge with him to Orem, as he is arguably one of the greatest collegiate coaches in NCAA history. He holds a combined career record of 608-304 (.667 winning percentage) at the helm of both men's and women's volleyball. 

Wilton, who began his coaching career at Cal Poly in 1973, holds stops as a head coach at Cal Poly (1973-1975 head men's volleyball coach), BYU-Hawaii (1976 head men's volleyball coach), Cal Poly (1978-1989 head women's volleyball coach) and Hawaii (1993-2009 head men's volleyball coach). He has also assisted at UC Santa Barbara (1974 men's volleyball), BYU (1976 men's volleyball), BYU (2009 women's volleyball), BYU (2009-2015 men's volleyball) and Southern Utah (2015-2016). 

Wilton built a dynasty at Hawaii during his 17 years as the school's head men's volleyball coach. He led the Warriors to a 316-167 record with four Mountain Pacific Sports Federation titles, three trips to the NCAA Final Four, and a national championship in 2002. He was named the Volleyball Magazine National Coach of the Year as well as the American Volleyball Coaches Association National Coach of the Year twice (1995 and 2002). 

During his head coaching tenure for the Cal Poly women's team, he led the Mustangs to a 10 straight NCAA Tournament appearances including three regional semifinalist finishes and four regional finals appearances. He earned Big West Coach of the Year honors in 1985 and 1989, and a 292-137 record at Cal Poly. 

Wilton received his Bachelor of Science degree from BYU-Hawaii in 1972 where he majored in physical education and coaching. He would later receive his Master of Science degree from BYU in 1977 in physical education and administration.
