LARAMIE, Wyoming – The UVSC Wrestling team had its first taste of Division I competition at the Cowboy Open hosted by the University of Wyoming on Saturday. Five other DI teams were competing including, Boise State, Oregon, Wyoming, Air Force and Northern Colorado. 

"It was good for us to get on the mat and start getting more experience," said head coach Cody Sanderson." "I was pleased with the day. Our wrestlers are really working hard and trying to do the things that the coaching staff is teaching." 

Erkin Tadzhimetov (133) and Billy Green (HWT) both took fourth place in their respective weight classes and Wayne Watts (157) took fifth place in the meet that had over 360 wrestlers. 

Mitch Morgan (149), didn't wrestle due to sourness from his emergency appendectomy just a week ago. Surprisingly, Morgan wrestled and recorded a pin in last Thursday's home meet against North Idaho, but Sanderson gave him the day off to recover on Saturday. 

The Wolverines will be on the road next Saturday to wrestle in the UNC Open in Greeley, Colorado.
