GREELEY, Colorado – Utah Valley State had four wrestlers make the semifinals fo the Mr. Goodcents UNC Open in Greeley, Colorado, on Saturday. 

The Wolverines were led by Wayne Watts and Darren Cooper who both placed third in their respective weight classes. Darrin Harris, 174 lbs, and Ryan Argyle, 125 lbs, took fourth in their divisions. 

"The guys showed a lot of improvement just since last week. Every match they seem to be getting better," said UVSC coach Cody Sanderson. "I am very optimistic about the direction the team is going." 

Sanderson said he was especially happy with the team's performance considering that his top-2 wrestlers were not a factor. Erkin Tadzhimetov (5-2) had to withdraw from the Open after winning his opening match. Tadzhimetov was the top seed in the 133 lb class. 

Sanderson also left Mitch Morgan home for health reasons. Morgan won by pin in the first NCAA match in UVSC history. 

Watts' third-place finish in the 157 lb class was impressive considering he lost his opening match. Watts then reeled off six straight wins, including a technical fall win over Josh Peterson of the United States Air Force Academy, to take third. 

Cooper took third in the 197 lb division by winning twice, losing, then winning twice more. Cooper's only loss was to the No.1 seeded Robert Roskiewicz (Northwest College).
