LAS VEGAS, Nevada – The UVSC wrestling team had a nice showing at the 2003 Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational, placing 24th out of 43 teams. The two-day tournament on Friday and Saturday featured schools made up of both Division I and Division II talent. 

Erkin Tadzhimetov (133) took sixth place in his weight class and Darren Cooper (197) was just one round short of placing. Head Wrestling Coach, Cody Sanderson was encouraged with his team's effort. 

"Erkin [Tadzhimetov] is in a position to be ranked nationally after his performance this week," said Sanderson. "Darren [Cooper] also had an excellent tournament. I was very proud of our team this weekend." 

In its first year as a Division I program, UVSC has matched up well against other Division I programs around the country. The Wolverines finished ahead of seven Division I programs including, Army, Cal-State Fullerton, and Virginia Tech. 

The Wolverines will travel home and prepare to host Western State on Saturday. The match will be held in the UVSC Activity Center at 7:00pm. The excitement for college wrestling in Utah continues to grow. The Wolverines defeated North Idaho College at home last month in front of a packed house.
