GREELEY, Colorado - Five UVSC errors led to 13 unearned runs, in a 22-9 loss to the University of Northern Colorado on Saturday at Jackson Field.
Wolverine starter,
Jason Ward went four innings and gave up 10 runs, but only two of them were earned. The UVSC defense hasn't been great all year, but despite the lack of defense the Wolverines are still over .500.
"I would love to see what this team could do if we could catch and throw," said head coach Steve Gardner.
The Wolverines didn't "catch and throw," but they did hit on Saturday, banging out 17 hits and scoring 9 nine runs.
Canyon Vance led the way offensively with a 4-for-5 day. Four other UVSC hitters had multi-hit days, including lead off man,
Jeremy Harris' 3-for-5, with 3 runs.
Reno Mendenhall went 2-for-4 with two runs and three RBI, including a solo homerun. Pepe Jones also went 2-for-4, with a homerun.
Jeff Broadhead rounded out the multi-hit club with a 2-for-5 day.
Ryan Symons led the way for UNC with a 3-for-4 day offensively with 5 RBI. Teammate Patrick Perry also had 5 RBI, including a three-run double.
Ward suffered the loss and falls to 3-3. Angelo Telitz earned the win for the Bears; he improves to 4-3 on the year.
UVSC (16-15) and UNC (26-17) will play the final game of the series on Sunday. The first pitch is scheduled for 12:00 pm (MST).
