OREM, Utah – For the first time in five meetings the University of Texas-Pan American volleyball team got the best of Utah Valley State Friday night on the Lady Broncs "Senior Night." UTPA snuck by the Wolverines in five games, 28-30, 30-25, 30-25, 26-30, 13-15.
"There were spurts that we played well, but tonight wasn't our night," said head coach
Sam Atoa. "We didn't execute like we needed to."
Despite the heart breaking loss the Wolverines had four players in double-figure kills, with
Anne Olsen leading the way with 18. She also had 17 digs to record her fifth double-double of the year.
Jessica Endres,
Camie Manwill, and
Brooke Adams were the other offensive threats and all finished with 12 kills apiece.
Lacee Koelliker had 51 assists and 19 digs to record her team-high eigth double-double. Manwill also notched 11 digs to record her fourth double-double on the season. Another bright spot for UV was the defensive play of Chelsea O'Neal who finished with 24 digs, just one shy of her career-high.
The Wolverine out-blocked UTPA 11-10, but were out-hit by the Lady Broncs .155 to .135. UTPA was led by Heather Bravo who had a match-high 19 kills.
The Wolverines fall to 10-11, while the Lady Broncs improve to 8-14.
UV will travel to Corpus Christi to play Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday at 6:00 pm (MST). The Wolverines own a 4-0 series record against the Islanders.
