USAF ACADEMY, Colorado - It was another successful day as Utah Valley State baseball team racked up 16 hits and Kyle Tash pitched eight excellent innings to lead the Wolverines to an 8-2 win over North Dakota State.
Kory Drew had two home runs, including an inside the park home run in the fourth inning that gave Utah Valley a 6-2 cushion as the team improved to 4-3 on the season.
"He just runs hard,"Â said Assistant Coach Nate Mathis. "He runs the bases like everybody in baseball should run the bases."
The win was the fourth straight for the Wolverines as they swept the weekend series with North Dakota State and Air Force at the Air Force Academy in Colorado, outscoring the opposition 52-10.
For the second straight day, every Wolverine with an at-bat had at least one hit led by Drew, Brad Hales and Jeff Broadhead with three hits apiece. Hales kept his season long hitting streak alive as the junior transfer from Brigham Young leads the team with 15 hits.
Tash picked up his first win of the year after giving up only six hits and walking none in his eight innings of work.
"We had a great day,"Â said Coach Steve Gardner. "Kyle Tash had an outstanding game. He just came in a did a really good job."
Trent Perry finished off his incredible weekend by going 2-5 with an RBI. For the weekend, Perry hit 10-18 with four home runs and 16 RBI.
The Wolverines face a tough task next weekend as they are scheduled to play Gonzaga three times in Pasco, Washington.
"They're an outstanding team. They were tough on us last year,"Â said Gardner. "But we're hot and hopefully we'll have a good chance to beat those guys."
The games are slated for 3:00Â p.m. MST on Friday and 2:00Â p.m. MST on Saturday and Sunday.
