DAVIS, California - An eight run first inning was the difference Sunday afternoon as Utah Valley State lost 10-2 to UC Davis, giving the Aggies the series sweep over the Wolverines.
The first nine batters of the game had hits for UC Davis and the first eight hitters scored, putting the game out of reach early.
Utah Valley State got on the board in the first inning, when Kory Drew scored all the way from second on a deep sacrifice fly by Reno Mendenhall. But that was the last time the Wolverines would lead in this one, as the Aggies handed Steve Gardner-??s club a nightmare of a first inning and cruised the rest of the way.
Kyle Tash pitched well in relief for the Wolverines, throwing five innings and giving up five hits and two earned runs, while striking out three. Chad Smout also pitched well for Utah Valley, throwing three innings in relief and not allowing a run while giving up two hits.
The Wolverines drop to 5-13 on the season and have now lost seven in a row as they head to Pullman, Washington for a four-game series against Washington State next weekend.
