SEATTLE, Washington - For at least a few moments Dan Bulow was the hero after his three-run blast in the top of the 8th gave Utah Valley State a 5-4 lead over the University of Washington on Tuesday in Seattle. But in the end it was not to be as the Huskies scored once in the bottom of the 8th to tie the game then again in their final at-bat to win 6-5 and sweep the three-game series from the Wolverines.
Utah Valley State trailed 4-1 in the 8th when Nick Connor, Canyon Vance and Trent Perry all singled to open the inning. Perry-??s single scored Connor and brought Bulow to the plate with nobody out. Bulow fell behind 1-2 before driving a slider over the left-center field wall to give the Wolverines their first lead of the series. The home run was his 7th and tied him with Perry for the team lead.
With the game tied in the top of the 9th, Connor hit a two-out single and stole second, but was stranded there sending the game to the bottom of the 9th tied.
In the final inning, Nick Batkoski hit the first pitch he saw down the left field line for a double off of Kyle Tash. After Batkoski was lifted for pinch runner Michael Burgher, Zach Coon was brought to relieve Tash and to face lefty Matt Lane. That-??s when Lane became the hero for Washington when he singled to right to score Burgher and give the Huskies the walk-off win. Connor, Vance and Perry had two hits each to lead the Wolverines, while Jed Jensen settled down after giving up three early runs, lasting 7 1/3 and giving up five runs on 10 hits.
Utah Valley State will be off until next week when they host BYU at Parkway Crossing Stadium on Monday night at 7:00pm. The following day they will travel to Salt Lake City to take on the Utah Utes, followed by a weekend series at Northern Colorado.
