DAVIS, California - UC Davis scored six unanswered runs to erase a five-run deficit and win 8-7 Saturday afternoon over Utah Valley State.
The Wolverines scored seven straight runs of their own after trailing 2-0 after five innings.
Utah Valley got on board in the sixth when Nick Connor hit a double off the wall in right field, scoring Keiki Albino. Adam Openshaw then drove Kade Boyer home to tie the game on a sacrifice fly.
The Wolverines took the lead thanks to the struggles of Davis' bullpen after Brad Hales and Derrick Thomas both walked with the bases loaded.
Then in the top of the 7th, the first three Wolverine batters walked and were driven in on another sac fly by Openshaw, a ground out by Dan Bulow and an infield single off the bat of Canyon Vance, giving UV a 7-2 lead.
Davis got back into it in the bottom of the 7th when sophomore third baseman Daniel DeScalso hit a three-run home run, cutting the lead to 7-5.
The Aggies scored three more in the eighth when DeScalso grounded into a fielder's choice and the ball got by Openshaw at first on what would have been an inning ending double play, giving Davis an 8-7 lead.
DeScalso had four RBI on the day while senior Tyler LaTorre made the first pitching appearance of his career and held UV to just two hits over the final three innings and got the win.
Openshaw had two hits and two RBI for Utah Valley State, who drops to 4-11 with the loss. Davis moves back to .500 (9-9) with the win and ends a four game losing streak.
The two teams will meet tomorrow at 1:00pm Pacific Time in the series finale. Kyle Tash (3-1, 5.53) will get the start for the Wolverines.
