Poppinga, Fogt Named UV Scholar Athletes

Orem, Utah - Track athletes Bekah Poppinga and Chris Fogt have been named the Utah Valley Scholar Athletes of the Month for the month of February.

Poppinga currently maintains a cumulative GPA of 3.63 and is majoring in Elementary Education. She participated in a humanitarian project in Bolivia.

Poppinga participates in both Cross Country and track at Utah Valley. At the Bronco Invitational hosted by Boise State, Poppinga took second in the women's 3000 meter run with a time of 10:35.90. At the Mountain States Games in Pocatello, Idaho, Poppinga was third among UV runners in the 5000 meters with a time of 18:24.

A Salt Lake City native and graduate of Skyline High School, Poppinga's parents are Marshall and Dixie Meier. Her husband is Kelly Poppinga.

Fogt has re-written the UV Indoor Sprint record books on numerous occasions during the Indoor season. Fogt broke the records in the 60, 200 and 400 meters during the season. In the 60-meter sprint, Fogt set the record with a time of at the Mountain States Games. At the Bronco Invitational, Fogt set the school record in the 200 meter dash with a time of 21.76. He finished the season with a record-breaking performance in the 400 meters at the Weber Invitational in Ogden. Fogt ran the 400 in 48.76 seconds.

Majoring in Business Management, Fogt maintains a 3.35 GPA. He is from Belmont Mass. and graduated from American Fork High School in 2001. Fogt served a LDS church mission to the Phillipines. His parents are William and Janet.
