ST. GEORGE, Utah - Utah Valley University's wrestling team will host a home dual on neutral ground Wednesday at 7 p.m. in St. George, Utah against Division-II foe Western State Mountaineers. The Wolverines will then head to Las Vegas, Nev., to compete in the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Dec. 5-6.
UVU and Western State will compete at Desert Hills High School in St. George, Utah. The High School is located at 820 East Hills Drive.
Utah Valley is 2-2 (0-0 WWC) on the early season and will be tested again Wednesday against Western State. The Mountaineers have beaten the Wolverines each of the last two seasons. The last meeting between these two schools occurred at the Tracy Borah Duals in Gunnison, Colo., the home of Western State, as they downed UVU 37-6 on Jan. 26, 2008. This dual marks the first of two to come this season, as both squads will lock heads again at the Tracy Borah Duals on Jan. 24, 2009.
Last week UVU sophomore Benjamin Kjar (125) was named the Western Wrestling Conference's Wrestler of the Week as he went an impressive 8-0. The 19th nationally ranked grappler helped the Wolverines go 2-1 in duals action that week as he won all three of his contests and also brought home the 125-pound title from the Best of the West Open. Kjar on the season is 13-2 (3-1 duals).
Also winning titles at the Best of the West on Nov. 22, was Utah Valley sophomore Flint Ray (133) and freshman Adam Fager (197).
Following the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Dec. 5-6 the Wolverines will be back in action at the UNK Loper Open in Kearney, Neb., on Dec. 13.
