CEDAR CITY, Utah - Southern Utah topped Utah Valley 4-2 on Saturday to win the rubber game of a three-game series in Cedar City.
Jace Brinkerhoff had two more hits on the day and drove in a run to finish the series 6-for-11 with three doubles, a home run and five batted in. Josh Hinckley also had two hits on the day but the Wolverines were limited to just six hits on the afternoon.
Mac Nelson (2-0) pitched seven scoreless innings for SUU (4-1) while Jacob Noyes threw two innings of relief to earn his first save. Dan Christensen (0-2) lasted 4.1 innings and allowed three runs on eight hits in suffering the loss.
Traling 2-0 entering the eighth, the Wolverines crept within a run after Brinkerhoff singled to score AJ Palmer. Tyler Garretson later came in to score the second run of the inning.
Noyes induced a double play in each of the two innings he pitched, ending Utah Valley's threat to take the series.
Joe Wright the the T-Birds with three hits while Jacob Romney had two hits and two RBI.
Utah Valley will travel to St. George tomorrow to face Dixie State in the first of a two-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 6pm. Monday's finale is scheduled to start at 1pm.
