LOS ANGELES - The Utah Valley University softball team lost two games Saturday at the LMU Invitational and will play two more on Sunday.

The Wolverines fell to 4-8 on the year with a 3-2 loss to St. Mary's and an 11-5 loss to Seattle. UVU beat the home team Loyola Marymount and lost to Seattle Friday, and are scheduled to play LMU and St. Mary's again Sunday.

"Honestly, I feel like we should have won both games today," UVU head coach Todd Fairbourne said. "The team needs to learn how to overcome hard things and finish. We played great for 12 out of 14 innings, but just couldn't finish."

Utah Valley was in a tight defensive battle against St. Mary's. The Gaels scored first with one run in the fourth and another in the fifth. The Wolverines tied the score at 2-2 in the top of the sixth on RBI singles from junior Cherylyn McGraw and freshman Amanda Perez. St. Mary's got the win, however, after scoring the winning run in the bottom of the seventh with a one-out, walk-off single.

Freshman Meghan Woodworth went 2-for-3 in the game and scored a run. Senior Magan Niemann went 1-for-2 and scored UVU's other run. Perez pitched the first four innings and gave up two runs on two hits. Junior Amber Sackett came on in relief and picked up the loss throwing 2.1 innings and giving up one run on three hits.

In the second game, UVU jumped to a lead 4-3 after two innings and held the Redhawks at bay through four. Seattle scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to take the lead and five in the sixth to pull away. The Wolverines scored one run in the sixth, but could not close the game.

Niemann went 3-for-4 in the game with a run and an RBI, and senior Lauren Augino went 2-for-3 with a run as well. Woodworth picked up two RBI in the game, and senior Kylee Steadman drove in her team-leading 12th RBI of the season. Sackett threw 5.2 innings and gave up all 11 runs on eight hits with four walks and two strikeouts. Perez came in to get the final out and gave up a walk.
