OREM, Utah - A potent offensive attack led Dallas Baptist to a doubleheader and series sweep of Utah Valley with wins of 12-3 and 17-11 on Saturday.
The Wolverines will now host Southern Utah on Monday and Tuesday in a quick two-game series. Both game begin at 6 p.m. MT.
The Patriots (25-11), who won Friday's series opener, 10-6, hit 10 home runs during the doubleheader, five in each game. Ryan Goins homered four times on the day including three home runs and six runs batted in in game one. Brandon Hill homered twice in game two for the Wolverines (11-27).
Kirk Doxey hit his team-high 10th home run to tie the first game at 3-3 in the fifth inning of game one. DBU scored nine unanswered runs including six in the top of the ninth to put UVU away.
The momentum continued into the second game when Dallas Baptist scored five runs in the first (four of which were unearned) and seven in the third to jump out to a 12-2 lead.
Brandon Bantz hit a two-out, three-run homer as part of the five-run first. In the third, the first three hitters reached before Clay Kelly hit a grand slam to right for the first four runs of the inning. Four batters later, Jason Krizan hit a two-run blast.
Trailing 13-3 in the fifth, the Wolverines put up four runs, two of which came on Hill's second home run, but that's as big a threat as UVU would make.
Both Hill and Chris Benson drove in three runs for Utah Valley in the final game.
Jace Brinkerhoff had a pair of hits in the opening game and is now just five hits away from tying the school's all-time hit record.
Utah Valley and Dallas Baptist will meet again in a three-game series in Dallas May 7-9.
