Arendse Homers Twice, Drives in Six in Offensive Onslaught

Feb. 25, 2010

ST. GEORGE, Utah - Kevin Arendse homered twice and drove in school record-tying six runs as Utah Valley slugged out a 21-10 win over Southern Utah at Dixie State College on Thursday night.

Arendse hit a grand slam in a six-run first inning and a two-run blast in the sixth. Billy Burgess also drove in six runs on a four-hit night, doubling in each of his first three at-bats.

"We had a good approach and came out with the right mindset," said UVU head coach Eric Madsen. "The most impressive thing is that we continued to stay focused and added runs and kept the pressure on."

Chris Benson and Austin Heaps both had three hits for the Wolverines (1-3) and Jason Zundel added a solo home run in the eighth.

UVU scored in eight out of nine innings and jumped out to a 17-3 lead after the top of the fifth.

The T-Birds (0-5) pushed across seven runs in the fifth, six of which were unearned, but were held scoreless over the final 4.1 innings by freshman Blake Krahenbuhl. Krahenbuhl earned his first win after he surrendered just four hits while striking out eight SUU batters.

The Wolverines finished with 17 hits and walked 14 times against six different T-Bird pitchers.

The teams will play twice on Friday beginning at 1 p.m. MT at Pine View High School in St. George. They'll also play at 6 p.m. at Dixie State's Bruce Hurst Field.
