OREM, Utah -- Utah Valley's women's volleyball team (9-6, 1-0) will head on its much anticipated Great West Conference roadtrip to the Dakotas this week to take on South Dakota on Thursday and the defending 2009 GWC Champion North Dakota Fighting Sioux on Saturday.
UVU has won nine of its last 11 matches on the season and will enter this weekend's play looking to stay unbeaten in conference. The Wolverines finished second in the conference last season with a 10-2 record and fell to the Fighting Sioux in the GWC title match.
In the Wolverines last match -- a 3-0 sweep over Southern Utah in Cedar City -- they were led by senior Kayli Doxey and junior Chelsey Heaps as the duo combined for 26 kills. Heaps also had her team-high fifth double-double in the victory as she recorded 11 kills and 11 digs.
The USD Coyotes will enter Thursday's match with a 2-15 overall record and a 0-1 clip in conference play. South Dakota is hungry for a victory after it has dropped its last 14 matches and recently suffered a 3-0 defeat in Vermillion by the hands of the Fighting Sioux last Saturday. The Coyotes only wins have come against Chicago State and Oakland so far in 2010. UVU beat USD both times they faced one another last season.
The Fighting Sioux enter the week with a conference high 11-5 overall record and a 1-0 start in conference play. UND has also won three of its last four matches, including two 3-0 sweeps against USD. The Sioux are led offensively by Devin Trefz who is averaging 3.45 kills per set and has a team-high 207. UND leads the all-time series against the Wolverines 2-1.
