March 27, 2011

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Utah Valley scored three times in the first and Blake Krahenbuhl lasted into the ninth to help the Wolverines split a Sunday doubleheader and take two of three from Sac State with a 4-1 win.

Krahenbuhl pitched 8.1 innings and allowed five hits and Josh Swenson came on to get the final two outs to earn his second save. Sunday's win in the finale, combined with Friday's 6-0 three-hitter, gave the Wolverines (6-13) the series win.The Hornet (6-18) won Sunday's first game 6-3.

In the first inning, Willie Pratt walked, Cole McWhorter doubled and Chris Benson singled to bring both runners home. Benson later scored in the inning on a wild pitch. The Hornets got a run in the bottom of the first on sac fly to make it 3-1.

The Wolverines scored again in the fifth to take a 4-1 lead. Billy Burgess singled with one out and moved to third on an Austin Heaps base hit. Goose Kallunki's RBI fielder's choice then brought home Burgess.

Sac State came back with five unanswered runs, getting one in the second, two in the third and one each in both the fourth and fifth.
