OREM, Utah—The Utah Valley University women's basketball team is set to take on Grand Canyon University in their second conference match-up of the season in the P.E. Building Saturday, Jan. 17 at 2 p.m. MT.
 
The Wolverines [6-10, 0-1 WAC] are 1-3 all-time against the Antelopes [6-8, 0-1 WAC], on a two game losing streak, with their last and only win being on Feb. 4, 2006 56-43.  Utah Valley ranks No. 6 in the WAC while Grand Canyon sits at No. 5.
 
"Grand Canyon is guard oriented and can has the ability to shoot the ball," said head coach Cathy Nixon. "We're coming together as a team on both ends of the floor, and it's important for us to defend our home court and put together a good game plan to be competitive."
 
Utah Valley enters the contest after dropping their last two, most recently their conference opener at Seattle U 73-58. UVU's last win was a 59-57 buzzer beater against Omaha on Dec. 29.  Rhaiah Spooner-Knight leads the Wolverines with 14.1 points per game with Mariah Seals close behind with 11.1 points per game.  Karlee Norris leads on the boards with a 7.8 average. 
 
The Lopes come into the contest after  losing on the road to WAC leader CSU Bakersfield 90-67.  They are lead by Jessica Gajewski who is averaging 11.6 points per game, while teammate August Touchard is averaging 8.4 points per contest.  Cheye Hedrington leads the team in rebounds with 6.3 per contest.
