Breanna McCarter scored a pair of goals and
Kali Stubbs fired in the game winner to lead the Utah Valley University women's soccer team to a 3-2 win over CSU Bakersfield Sunday at Main Soccer Field.

The Wolverines improve to 12-5-1 overall and 7-1-1 in WAC play. Utah Valley (22 points) now sits just a point behind Seattle U (23 points) for the top spot in the WAC standings. The two teams will face one another on Saturday in Seattle.

"I loved the response from out team today," said Utah Valley head coach
Brent Anderson. "They knew that they could improve on Friday's result and they played with great focus and determination today."

Breanna McCarter gave Utah Valley a 1-0 advantage in the 29th minute as she kicked in her second goal of the season from inside the box after receiving a cross from
Libby Weber.

With just 23 seconds remaining in the first half, Bakersfield's Tori VanderHoef recovered a long ball from goalkeeper Tori Ornela and put it in the back of the net to tie the match heading into the break.

McCarter got the lead back for the Wolverines in the 46th minute as she fired in a shot from inside the box after receiving a cross from
Sara Callister. McCarter's third goal of the season put Utah Valley up 2-1.

Kali Stubbs scored what would prove to be the game winner in the 58th minute as she rebounded her own shot and put the ball into the net to give UVU a 3-1 advantage. The goal marks Stubbs' fourth score of the season.

The Roadrunners cut the UVU lead to 3-2 in the 64th minute after WAC scoring leader Aminah Settles tallied her 10th goal of the season. UVU was able to hold the 'Runner scoreless through the final 26 minutes to secure the win.

Utah Valley out-shot CSUB 20-10 on the day, including a 10-6 advantage on goal. McCarter led UVU with five shots, four of which were on goal.
Jessica Duffin led the Wolverine defensive effort with three saves in goal.

Utah Valley will play its final regular season match of the season on Saturday at Seattle U. A draw with the Redhawks would tie the Wolverines for the WAC regular season title, while a UVU win would win the title out-right. Kickoff is set for 8 p.m. on Saturday.
