OGDEN, Utah—The Utah Valley University women's basketball team dropped a 61-56 decision at Weber State on Saturday, despite a career-high tie of 21 points from Sam Loggins.

Rhaiah Spooner-Knight tallied 14 points, Mariah Seals tallied 11 points, and Taylor Gordon had seven on the night. Spooner-Knight led on the boards with six rebounds, while Georgia Agnew, Rebecca MaWhinney, and Gordon each pulled down five boards.

"I'm very disappointed in our lack of urgency in the beginning, we gave up way too many baskets. I'm not sure why our girls didn't show up with that sense of urgency, and we gave up a lot of offensive rebounds. That's our dilemma to solve right now," head coach Cathy Nixon said. "Sam Loggins was awesome, she got to the basket and performed well. With an athletic team like this, you have to do well on the rims, and we did not do that tonight."

Weber State jumped out to a quick 9-2 start, but the Wolverines responded with an 11-0 run and closed the first quarter with a short 15-14 lead.

Loggins took off for seven straight unanswered points in the second quarter, changing the tables with a Wolverine lead 24-16. Weber State responded with a 12-2 run to take a Wildcat lead 29-28 and just under three minutes left before the break.

The Wolverines and the Wildcats went back and fourth in the third quarter, with the lead changing three times and tying twice, before finally settling at 44-44 going into the fourth.

Utah Valley led by as much as six in the fourth quarter (53-47, 4:03 remaining), when the Wildcats went on an 11-0 run over three minutes to lead at 58-53, with 42 seconds remaining. Taylor Gordon hit a huge three to cut the disadvantage to just two points at 58-56, but three consecutive Wildcat free throws sealed the 61-56 defeat for the Wolverines.

UVU will rest for ten days before traveling to Nebraska to see Omaha on Dec. 22, 2015.
