GREELEY, Colo. – Utah Valley University dropped both ends of a doubleheader, 12-7 and 4-1, at Northern Colorado on Sunday at Jackson Field. With the wins the Bears finished off a three-game sweep of the WAC series.
In the first game, the Wolverines (12-24, 8-7) found themselves in a big hole after Northern Colorado (12-21, 9-6) scored four in the second, four in the third and two more in the fourth for a 10-1 lead. All four runs in the second inning came in unearned after an error extended the inning.
UVU clawed back within striking distance, scoring four times in the sixth and twice in the eighth to make it a 10-7 contest. The Bears answered with two in the bottom of the eighth to stretch it back to a five run lead.
Northern Colorado had 17 hits in the first game of the twin bill, with Jensen Park collecting four hits and driving in three runs. Reyn Sugai and Cole Maltese had three hits each for the Bears.

Greyson Bogden and
Craig Brinkerhoff each had two hits to lead Utah Valley.
Marco Briones was solid in relief, pitching 4.1 innings with only two unearned runs coming in against him.
In the finale, Northern Colorado scored three quick runs in the bottom of the first with two coming on a Dan Reese base hit with two aboard. The Bears added a run in the fourth, rallying after there were two outs and nobody on three consecutive singles with Marco Castilla driving him Jensen Park.
UNC starter Nick Tanner had a no-hitter through five, before
Zac Fuller doubled down the line in left with one out in the sixth.
Palmer Page drove home a run two hitters later with a groundball to second, scoring
Craig Brinkerhoff.
Tanner lasted 6.0 innings and allowed one run on just the one hit while striking out four and walking five.
The Wolverines had chances in the seventh and eighth but inning-ending double plays halted both opportunities.
Braden Poole was perfect in relief, retiring all 10 hitters he faced in 3.1 innings.
The Wolverines will make the trip down to Colorado Springs to face Air Force in a non-conference contest on Monday at 2 p.m. MT. Grand Canyon comes to Orem this weekend for a three-game WAC series beginning Friday.
