GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Jake Marvos hit his first career home run and Kaden Schmitt picked up his first career win as Utah Valley University topped North Dakota, 11-8, on Sunday at Kraft Field.

Seth Rhineer also homered and went 2-for-3 with two RBIs for the Wolverines (17-31, 13-11). The win gives Utah Valley a series win and moves the team into a tie with North Dakota (19-24, 13-11) with three games to go in WAC play.

"I'm happy for those guys. They've worked hard and to have it manifest itself on the field is great," said head coach Eric Madsen of Marvos and Schmitt's firsts. "This is a good series win against a team that has been playing very well. Hopefully this series catapults us into the final week and then into the tournament."

North Dakota made a late push, scoring four times in the ninth, but Logan Hold came on to strike out Luis Calvo on three pitches to end it and pick up his first save.

With one out in the first, Mark Krueger tripled to straightaway center and scored on a sacrifice fly by Brinkerhoff. North Dakota quickly tied the game when Dalton Parrott lined a home run down the line in left, just inside the foul pole, to lead off the bottom of the first.

Marvos' home run, a three-run shot, came in the fourth with two outs and scored Brinkerhoff and Page. All three runs were unearned after an error allowed Brinkerhoff to reach earlier in the inning. Rhineer's home run, a no-doubter, led off the fifth and gave Utah Valley a 5-2 lead.

After Jordan Schlehuber led off the seventh with a walk, Rhineer doubled him home to start a three-run rally. Krueger drove in a run with a base hit and Page also added a sacrifice fly in the inning, extending the Wolverine lead to 8-2.

The Wolverines made it 9-2 on an eighth-inning sacrifice fly off the bat of Schlehuber. It was the team's third sac-fly of the day and the fifth in the last two games.

A groundout and a two-out triple by Ellery Bresnahan scored two in the bottom of the eighth for UND to make it 9-4.

Krueger got one of those runs back in the ninth, doubling to center to bring in Andrus, who reached on an infield single. Krueger's double, the team's sixth extra-base hit of the day, was in the same area as his first-inning triple to straightaway center and just missed leaving the park. He then scored on a base hit by Page to give Utah Valley an 11-4 advantage.

In the bottom of the ninth, UND rallied for four runs getting an RBI double from Jeff Campbell, a two-run triple from Ryan Reese and a sacrifice fly. North Dakota had two aboard and the tying run at the plate when Hold came in to get Calvo to end it.

Schmitt pitched a season-high 7.0 innings and allowed two runs on four hits. His first win came a day after Jackson Cofer picked up his first victory on Saturday.

Krueger finished 3-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored while Page joined Krueger and Rhineer with two RBIs. Reese went 3-for-4 to lead North Dakota. Alex Twenge (3-5) took the loss after allowing five runs (two earned) on five hits in 5.2 innings.

The Wolverines finish the regular season with three games at Texas-Pan American beginning Thursday in Edinburg, Texas. Having clinched a berth in the WAC Tournament with Saturday's win, Utah Valley is now playing for seeding in the tournament and can mathematically finish anywhere from No. 2 to No. 6.
