OREM, Utah -- Utah Valley University dropped its home finale, 15-3, to Utah on Tuesday night at Brent Brown Ballpark in front 3,460 fans.
Mark Krueger had a pair of doubles for the Wolverines (15-30) but the Utes (16-27) jumped out to a big early lead in controlling the game throughout.
The win marks a sweep in the season series for the Utes who pounded out fifteen hits on the night, including a two-run home run by Cody Scaggari in the second inning and a two-run homerun by Biss Larsen in the eighth.
In addition to Krueger's two hits,
Zac Fuller and
Jordan Schlehuber added two hits each. Krueger doubled in the fourth inning and then had an RBI double in the eighth inning for UVU. Fuller drove in a run in the fourth inning with a sacrifice fly to score
Kade Andrus. Krueger's second double came with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning and scored Schlehuber. Â
Tanner Thomas (2-0) picked his second win of the year on the mound for the Utes as he only gave up one hit and one run while striking out six and walking one in 6.0 innings of work.
Jake Mayer (1-6) took the loss for Utah Valley.
The Wolverines return to WAC play with a pivotal WAC series this weekend at North Dakota. The series begins Friday at 3 p.m. CT/4 p.m. MT from Grand Forks with the Wolverines needed one win or a New Mexico State loss over the final six league games to clinch a berth in the WAC Tournament in Mesa.
