OREM, Utah – A pair of quick goals helped Utah Valley University to a 2-1 win over Cal State Fullerton on Thursday night in front of 2,545 fans at Clyde Field.

Alex Neff scored the game-tying goal in the 72nd minute and assisted on the game-winner to Karson Payton just 76 seconds later – in the 73rd minute – to help the Wolverines (7-2-0) cap their non-conference schedule with a victory.

"Our half-time talk was to continue to press and keep at it. We were on the front foot for most of the game and we needed to stay positive and be resilient and we knew that goal was going to come," said UVU head coach Greg Maas. "The crowd was phenomenal. It's Homecoming and the 12th Wolverines were big-time for us."

The Titans (4-4-0) struck in the 31st minute when Diego Sanchez volleyed a Wolverine header near the top of the box, striking it into the back of the net to give his team a 1-0 advantage.

That lead held for over 40 minutes, despite the Wolverines controlling possession and nearing several scoring chances. On the team's 11th and final corner kick of the night off the foot of Aaron Meyer, Neff whipped a header to the far post for the equalizer.

"We knew we were due. That really set the tone for us," Maas said.

Then, on a free kick from the far half of the field, Neff booted a perfect ball into the box that Payton found and finished for his third game-winner of the season.

"Karson's a very quick and tenacious player and his finish was absolute class. A deserved game-winner for the team for our captain," said Maas.

UVU had a 21-7 advantage in total shots with nine of those on frame to just two shots on goal for the Titans.

The Wolverines will have the rest of the week off before they begin WAC play next weekend. UVU opens the conference schedule on Friday, Oct. 2 against Air Force at Clyde Field. They'll also host Missouri-Kansas City on Sunday, Oct. 4 at 1 p.m.
