OREM, Utah – The Utah Valley University softball team will cap a four-game homestand when Idaho State comes to town for a midweek contest on Tuesday afternoon. The non-conference ballgame will begin at 3 p.m. at UVU's Wolverine Field.

"We're excited to face Idaho State on Tuesday," head UVU coach Nikki Palmer said. "They are a tough and respectable opponent, but I think it will be a good situation for us to pick up a win."

The Wolverines (5-29, 1-5 WAC) will enter the contest having dropped seven straight after falling twice to in-state foe Weber State on April 5 in Ogden and three more times to New Mexico State in WAC play at home over the weekend. After suffering 9-0 and 11-1 defeats to the first-place NM State Aggies on Friday, UVU responded by keeping things close in Saturday's series finale. The Wolverines took an early 1-0 lead in the game, but New Mexico State responded with three runs in the third and one more in the seventh to take the contest by a score of 4-2.

Despite dropping Saturday's finale to NM State, junior Bailey Moore went the distance in the circle for UVU and gave up just four runs on seven hits while striking out four. The Wolverine defense helped Moore keep things close by turning a season-high three double plays, as the Aggies stranded a total of seven runners on the base paths.

Sophomores Cera Stanley and Dana De La Torre led the Utah Valley offense in Saturday's series finale against NM State by each going 1-for-2 with a run batted in. Stanley delivered an RBI double in the second while De La Torre came through with an RBI single of her own in the fourth.

Junior Brittney Vansway led UVU at the plate last week by hitting .313 with two RBIs and a double, while senior Tiani Hensley batted .286 with a pair of home runs and four RBIs.

Junior Brianna Gatlin leads the Wolverines on the season with a .318 batting average, 11 doubles and 23 walks, while sophomore Kellee Ramsey fronts the pitching staff with a 5.31 ERA and a 1-5 record.

Tuesday's contest will mark the Lace Up game for UVU, where it will wear gold shoelaces in its cleats to help raise awareness for pediatric cancer awareness. The initiative is part of the Go4theGoal Foundation. The Go4theGoal Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping kids with cancer achieve their goals. Their mission is to improve the lives of children battling cancer by providing financial support, developing and implementing unique hospital programs, funding innovative research, and granting personal wishes. Go4theGoal provides the best practices to patients, their families, and the hospitals and staff that care for them.

ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
Idaho State will come to Orem with a 17-17 overall record and a 5-2 start to Big Sky play after sweeping a three-game series over Montana in Pocatello last weekend. The Bengals have won five straight and were picked to finish second in the Big Sky after winning the regular season league title a year ago with a 17-4 conference clip.

Kacie Burnett paces the ISU offense on the season with a .429 average and 16 stolen bases while Maddy Hickman leads the club in the power numbers with six homers, eight doubles and 37 RBIs. Ashlyn Ames fronts the Bengal pitching staff with a 3.27 ERA and a 7-9 record.

Tuesday's contest will mark the 38th all-time meeting between UVU and ISU on the diamond. The Wolverines will enter play holding a 21-16 series advantage despite having dropped six of the last seven ballgames to Idaho State.

ON DECK FOR UVU
The Wolverines will hit the road to return to conference play at Missouri-Kansas City this weekend. The three-game WAC series will begin with a doubleheader on Friday at 1 p.m. MT/2 p.m. CT and 3 p.m. MT/4 p.m. CT.
