Â
OREM, Utah – The Utah Valley University softball team will head to Seattle this weekend to close conference play against Seattle University. The three-game WAC series will begin Friday, April 29 at Seattle U's Logan Field.
Â
The fifth-place Wolverines and the sixth-place Redhawks will open the series with a Friday doubleheader at 5 p.m. MT/4 p.m. PT and 7 p.m. MT/6 p.m. PT before closing the series with a single game on Saturday at 3 p.m. MT/2 p.m. PT.
Â
"We're looking forward to getting to Seattle this weekend," head coach
Nikki Palmer said. "These should be three winnable games and we're anticipating a sweep."
Â
UVU will enter its final league series with a 6-36 record and in fifth place in the conference standings with a 2-10 league record. The Wolverines will enter play having dropped five straight ballgames after getting swept by Grand Canyon in its final home series last weekend. The Antelopes took the first contest, 4-0, before recording back-to-back 10-6 decisions in the final two games to sweep the series.
Â
Errors doomed the Wolverines in the series, as GCU scored a total of 14 unearned runs off of UVU miscues. Despite going 0-3 in the circle, the UVU pitching staff posted a 3.33 ERA on the weekend.
Â
Junior
Brittney Vansway led Utah Valley offensively against the Lopes by hitting an even .600 (6-for-10) with two doubles, two RBIs and three runs scored. Sophomore
Taleigh Williams was next by going 4-for-9 (.444) with a pair of runs batted in and a run scored, while fellow sophomore

Â
ABOUT THE OPPOSITION
Seattle U will enter the series with a 15-30 overall record but just 1-11 in league play to sit in sixth place in the WAC standings. The Redhawks will enter Friday's opener having dropped eight straight ballgames after getting swept at home by UMKC last weekend, as well as at CSU Bakersfield the previous week. SU's lone league win came over GCU at home on April 8. The Redhawks were picked to finish fifth in the WAC this season after going 4-10 in conference play a year ago.
Â
Paige Bouska leads SU on the year with a .344 average while Isabella Geronimo paces the team with 26 RBIs. Alyssa Reuble is tops on the pitching staff with a 6-10 record and a 3.78 ERA.
Â
Friday's opener will mark the 23rd all-time meeting between UVU and SU. Seattle U will enter the weekend holding a 13-9 series advantage despite Utah Valley having won four of the last six meetings, including two at the 2015 WAC Tournament.
