UVU travels to play rival Seattle U on Saturday night

OREM--The Utah Valley women's soccer team wraps up non-conference play on Saturday as the team travels to Washington to take on WAC rival Seattle U in a non-league match at Championship Field. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. PT/8 p.m. MST.

Utah Valley (6-3-1) heads into Saturday's match in Seattle fresh off a 2-1 overtime win over Grand Canyon on Monday at Clyde Field. The win extended UVU's home unbeaten streak to an impressive 14 matches as the Wolverines have not lost a match at home since falling to Seattle U on Nov. 1, 2014. Alexis Peterson registered the game-winning golden goal in the 98th minute to secure the victory over the Antelopes after receiving a pass in the box from Sydney Fitzpatrick. The score was Peterson's team-leading fifth goal of the season. Taylor Kirk scored her second goal of the season in the win over GCU, tallying a goal in just the fourth minute of the match. Kirk's goal was assisted by both Abby Jameson and Breanna McCarter. Brooklyn Nielsen, who tallied five saves against GCU, earned the victory in the box, improving her record to 4-1-1 on the year.
 
Peterson leads the Wolverines with five goals and 10 points this season. Abby Jameson and Kirk each own two goals, while eight other Wolverines have each scored at least one goal this season. Freshman Breanna DeWaal leads the Wolverines with 36 shots, including a team-best 12 shots on goal. She also fronts UVU with three assists. Sara Callister ranks second on the team with 17 shots, including seven on goal. Nielsen leads the team in the box with a 4-1-1 record. She has 35 saves and owns a .875 save percentage on the season.

As a team, Utah Valley has netted 17 goals while allowing opponents just 11. The Wolverines average 14.9 shots a match with a .389 shots on goal percentage. The Wolverines are holding opponents to just a .093 shot percentage while limiting opponents to a 1.10 goals per game average. UVU also holds a 149-118 shots advantage and a 62-47 edge on corner kicks.
 
Saturday's match at Seattle will kickoff at 7 p.m. PT/8 p.m. MST, and will be broadcast live on the WAC Digital Network at www.WACsports.com/watch.

ABOUT SEATTLE U
Seattle U holds a 4-5-1 overall record this season. The Redhawks head into Saturday night's match fresh off a 2-1 setback at Cal Poly on Sunday. Sunday's match against UVU marks only the fourth home match of the season for Redhawks who hold a 1-2 record at Championship Field this year. Seattle U has tallied seven goals this season while allowing nine goals. Senior forward Brie Hooks has scored five of SU's seven goals this season. Sophomore forward Karli White leads the team with 27 shots this season. White scored her first goal of the season in last Sunday's 2-1 setback to Cal Poly. Redshirt freshman keeper Ashley Routh leads the team in the box with 20 saves and four shutouts. SU is coached by Julie Woodward who is in his 20th season with the team.

SERIES HISTORY VS. SEATTLE U
Utah Valley and Seattle U meet on the pitch for the 12th time on Saturday night with Redhawks holding a 9-1-1 all-time series advantage. Utah Valley and Seattle U meet on the Championship Field pitch for the sixth time in the two team's history. SU owns a 5-0-0 advantage in matches played on the Championship Field pitch. The two teams went 1-1-1 against each other just a year ago. The Wolverines picked up their first-ever win over SU in last year's WAC Tournament championship match, defeating the Redhawks 2-0 to claim their first-ever WAC soccer title.

HOME SWEET CLYDE FIELD - UNBEATEN STREAK AT 14 MATCHES
Utah Valley has enjoyed an impressive 20-2-4 at Clyde Field over the past three seasons. The Wolverines hold an all-time 65-32-10 mark at home since UVU became a Division I member in 2003. UVU went unbeaten at home last season with a 9-0-1 record. The team extended its Clyde Field unbeaten streak to 14 matches with its 2-1 overtime win over Grand Canyon on Monday afternoon. The Wolverines ranked 24th (1,074 per game) nationally in attendance at Clyde Field last season. UVU already ranks 12th in the nation in attendance after welcoming an average of 1,397 fans through the gates though three home matches this year.

NIELSEN EARNS SECOND WAC WEEKLY HONOR OF THE SEASON
Utah Valley's Brooklyn Nielsen was named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for her play Sept. 12-18. The honor marked the second time this season that Nielsen has earned the award. Nielsen helped the Wolverines to a 1-0-1 record on the week of Sept. 12-18. The first-year keeper helped UVU pick up its first-ever shutout against in-state rival Utah on Sept. 16 at Clyde Field, helping the Wolverines extend their unbeaten home streak to 13 matches. In the 0-0 draw against the Utes, Nielsen tallied five saves on seven Utah shots and made a key save in the final minute of the second overtime to help UVU secure the clean sheet. She also helped UVU to a 5-1 win at Idaho State on Sept. 18, making four saves in the victory. Overall on the week, Nielsen went 1-0-1 in the box with nine saves, a .900 save percentage, and 0.45 goals against average.

UTAH VALLEY'S RPI REMAINS IN TOP-100
After debuting at No. 82 in last week's first RPI release of the season, Utah Valley now holds the No. 92 in the country, according to the NCAA. UVU continues to hold the top RPI in the WAC at 92, followed by Seattle U (137), Grand Canyon (165), UMKC (190), CSU Bakersfield (198), UTRGV (298), New Mexico State (309) and Chicago State (330).

UVU IN THE NATIONAL STATISTICAL RANKINGS
UVU freshman goalkeeper Brooklyn Nielsen holds the highest individual national ranking on the team as she ranks 23rd nationally in save percentage at .875. She also ranks 32nd national and first in the WAC with a .634 goals against average.

KIRK ENTERS ALL-TIME UVU CAREER CHARTS
Senior forward Taylor Kirk ranks in the top-10 in three different all-time UVU career statistical rankings. Kirk is tied for fourth all time with six game-winning goals, just two away from the all-time best mark of eight. She ranks 10th all-time in points with 35.

PETERSON'S GOLDEN GOAL LIFTS UVU TO 2-1 OVERTIME WIN OVER GRAND CANYON
Alexis Peterson scored a golden goal in the 98th minute to lift the Utah Valley University women's soccer team to a 2-1 overtime win over Grand Canyon in a non-conference match on Monday afternoon at Clyde Field. The match was UVU's lone contest of the week. The Wolverines took an early 1-0 lead in the fourth minute after Abby Jameson sent a free kick into the box. Breanna McCarter one-touched the kick to Taylor Kirk who hit it off the cross bar and into the back of the net for the goal. The score marks Kirk's second goal of the season and the 13th of her career. Grand Canyon tied things up in the 43rd minute after McKenzie Cook sent a pass from the midfield to a streaking Milla Benedetti who sent a shot into the back of the net. Peterson fired in the game-winning golden goal into the net in the eighth minute of the first overtime to secure the win. Sydney Fitzpatrick was credited with the assist on the score after she dribbled into the box and flicked the ball to Peterson who then turned and shot the ball into the upper left 90 for the win. The goal is the fifth of the season for Peterson. UVU out-shot Grand Canyon 18-14 on the day, including a 7-6 advantage on goal. Kirk and Breanna DeWaal led the Wolverines with three shots each. Kirk had a team-high two of shots on goal. Brooklyn Nielsen played all 97 minutes in the box for UVU, tallying five saves.
 
LOOKING AHEAD
Utah Valley opens Western Athletic Conference play at home against CSU Bakersfield on Oct. 7. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Clyde Field. The Wolverines will then travelt to Phoenix to take on Grand Canyon on Oct. 9 at 1 p.m.
