UTAH VALLEY OPENS WAC PLAY AT KANSAS CITY, CHICAGO STATE
The Utah Valley University women's soccer team opens up Western Athletic Conference play this week on the road at UMKC and Chicago State. The Wolverines will travel to Kansas City, Missouri to take on UMKC on Friday night at 6:30 p.m. MT before heading to Chicago to face Chicago State on Sunday at 12 p.m. MT.
Utah Valley heads into weekend fresh off a 1-0 loss at 23rd-ranked Texas A&M on Monday night. Utah Valley was impressive on the defensive side of the ball against Texas A&M as the Wolverines weathered 24 Aggie shots, including 12 shots on goal. Sarah Davis played all 90 minutes in goal for UVU, collecting a season-high 11 saves on the night. She withstood 21 Texas A&M corner kicks. Texas A&M scored the game's lone goal in the 65th minute after Haley Pounds put a penalty shot just out of the reach of UVU's Davis on the left side to help the Aggies secure the 1-0 victory. Utah Valley's Breanna McCarter and Laken Flinders led the team with two shots apiece. The Wolverines did have a pair of near misses as the team tallied nine shots with five on goal.

Breanna DeWaal leads both UVU and the WAC with 49 shots and 24 shots on goal this season. She also leads the Wolverines and ranks tied for eighth in the WAC with four goals through 13 matches. Breanna McCarter ranks second on the team with two three goals, while Sydney Fitzpatrick has two. Tori Smith, Amber Tripp, Doriana Maul, Libby Weber, and Ashlyn Farnes each have one goal. Brooklyn Nielsen leads UVU in the box with 21 saves while Sarah Davis leads the team in goal with a 1.40 goals allowed average. As at team, Utah Valley leads the WAC with 181 shots this season. The team also leads the conference with 86 corner kicks.

SMITH AND BRUCE NAMED WAC PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Utah Valley's Tori Smith and Hannah Bruce have been named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, for Sept. 25- Oct. 1.
Smith, senior forward from Sandy, Utah (Jordan High School) played a major role in the non-conference match up to take down WAC preseason favorite Seattle U 3-0. Smith scored the game-winner in just the second minute of play as she received a pass into the box and hit the left upper 90. To add to her first goal of the season, she later assisted the other two goals of the match. Smith recorded four points on the match while she played 79 minutes and recorded three shots.

Bruce, sophomore defender from Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia (Auburn Drive High School) helped anchor the defense to its first shutout win of the season. Bruce made numerous key defensive stops and organized the defense to allow two shots in the match with only one on frame. She also earned an assist on the second goal of the match.
ABOUT KANSAS CITY
UMKC enters Friday night's match with a 5-6-1 overall record. The team has won three of its last four matches, including a 1-0 win over Indiana State on Sunday, Oct. 1. The team returns home from a roadtrip to Illinois State and Indiana State last week. The Kangaroos hold a 3-1-0 record at home this season. Junior midfielder/forward Lexie Howard leads the team and the WAC in goals this season with seven. She also leads the team with 38 shots this year. Sophomore keeper Erin Roth leads the team and the WAC with an impressive 0.64 goals allowed average as she has only allowed three goals on the season. UMKC is coached by Chris Cissell who is in his seventh season with the team. He holds a 66-53-18 record with he Kangaroos.

ABOUT CHICAGO STATE
Chicago State enters the week with a 1-12-0 overall record. The team has lost 10 straight after picking up its lone win of the season on Aug. 25 at Saint Xavier. Freshman forward Jensyn Stanberry and sophomore forward Mariela Alba lead the team in scoring with two goals each. Freshman defender Samantha Noonan and sophomore midfielder Miranda Coen also have registered a goal this season. The team has allowed 77 goals by its opponents this season. The Cougars have used three keepers this season in junior Audra Wisehart, senior Gabby Kiemp and sophomore Bailey McFarland. Wisehart holds the one victory for CSU. Kevin Meek is in his first season as the head coach of the Cougars.

Utah Valley and Chicago State meet on the pitch for just the fourth time on Thursday evening. UVU holds an all-time 3-0-0 record against the Cougars, including a 1-0-0 all-time mark against CSU in Chicago. The Wolverines defeated Chicago State 3-0 last season in Orem.

UVU PICKS UP 3-0 WIN OVER WAC FAVORITE SEATTLE U
Utah Valley scored three first-half goals while holding WAC rival Seattle U scoreless to pick up its first shutout victory of the season in a 3-0 win over the Redhawks on Sept. 30 in a non-conference match at Clyde Field.

The win over SU marks just the second win for UVU over the Redhawks in school history. The only other victory over Seattle was a 2-0 win on Nov. 8, 2015 in the WAC Tournament championship match. Utah Valley improves to 4-8-0 overall with the win, while Seattle U falls to 4-6-1 on the season. Â

Utah Valley took a quick 1-0 lead in just the second minute as Sydney Fitzpatrick sent a ball into the middle of the box from the right side to Tori Smith who then fired it into the upper left corner of the goal for the score. The goal marks Smith's first goal of the season.

The Wolverines took a 2-0 advantage in the 36th minute after Hannah Bruce sent a ball down the left side of the field to Smith who then sent a cross into the middle of the box where Breanna DeWaal one-touched it into the back of the goal. The goal is DeWaal's fourth of the year.

Utah Valley continued the first-half scoring effort in the 42nd minute as Amber Tripp sent a ball into the box from the right side where Smith touched it to McCarter who then found the back of the net to give UVU a 3-0 lead.
 The Wolverines outshot Seattle U 14-2 on the night, including a 6-1 advantage on goal. DeWaal and Smith led Utah Valley with three shots apiece, while Tripp helped with two. Â

Sarah Davis played all 90 minutes in goal for the Wolverines, picking up UVU's first shutout of the season. Davis tallied one save while not allowing a goal. The UVU defense was impressive as it allowed Seattle U just two shots on the night.
ROAD TRIPPIN'
Utah Valley has logged 13,118 miles this season. The team has already played in seven different states this year. Utah Valley spent nearly a month on the road before the team opened its home slate against Wyoming on Sept. 8. UVU opened the season with a pair of matches in Hawaii. The team then traveled to Las Vegas, Northridge, California, Tulsa, and Tulsa, Oklahoma. The team then wrapped up non-conference play at Texas A&M in College Station, Texas. UVU finished its non-conference games away from Clyde Field with a 2-8 record. The Wolverines have played 10 of their 13 matches away from Clyde Field. UVU holds a 1-8-0 road record and a 1-0-0 record at a neutral site this season. Friday and Sunday's matches mark the team's 11th and 12th games of the year away from Orem, Utah.
INJURY BUGS
Utah Valley has lost four players to injury this season, including Alexis Peterson, Sara Callister, Sheridan Fox, and Sadie Brockbank. Peterson led UVU with five goals last season, while Callister scored two and Fox had one. In 2015, Fox led UVU with eight goals while Callister tallied three.
TAKING IT TO OVERTIME
Utah Valley has played four overtime games this season. The Wolverines opened the season with a 2-1 loss at Hawaii in overtime. The team then dropped back-to-back 2-1 overtime decisions at UNLV and at CSUN. The Wolverines also lost in double overtime at home to Washington State, 3-2. UVU is 0-4-0 in overtime games this year.
UVU IN THE CORNER
Utah Valley is tied for 15th in the nation in corner kicks this year (86). The Wolverines also rank tied for 22nd in the nation in corner kicks per game (6.62). The Wolverines lead the WAC in both categories.

Utah Valley leads the Western Athletic Conference at 6.53 shots on goal per game. The team also ranks third in the WAC with 181 shots this season.
DEWAAL RANKS 16TH IN THE NATION IN SHOTS ON GOAL
Utah Valley sophomore forward/midfielder Breanna DeWaal is tied for 16th nationally with 24 shots on goal. She also ranks 17th in the nation with 49 shots. DeWaal ranks 44th in the nation in shots on goal per game at 1.85 a match and ranks 47th in the country at 3.77 shots per game. DeWaal leads the WAC in each category.
CLYDE FIELD MAGIC
Utah Valley holds an impressive 68-34-10 all time record at Clyde Field. The team has lost just five matches over the past four seasons on the home pitch. UVU went 5-2-1 last season, including a double overtime tie against in-state rival Utah and wins over Southern Utah, UNLV, Grand Canyon, Chicago State and UMKC. The Wolverines were unbeaten at home during the 2015 season with a 9-0-1 mark. UVU is 2-1-0 at home this season with wins over Wyoming an Seattle U. UVU ranks 28th nationally in attendance, averaging 975 fans per match.
