OREM, Utah—Utah Valley split a doubleheader against Western Athletic Conference foe CSU Bakersfield on Friday afternoon at Wolverine Field. The Wolverines picked up a 6-2 win in the opener before dropping a 6-5 decision in the nightcap.

The Wolverines move their record to 9-16 overall and 1-4 in WAC play. CSU Bakersfield pushes its record to 6-24 overall and 1-4 in league play.

"That was a tough call there at the end, but that's not what decided that second game. We should've held them scoreless in those last couple of innings, as well as driven in a few more runs when we had the chance," said senior third baseman Brittney Vansway. "But this will show us what we need to work on and do better at next time."

Utah Valley will wrap up the three-game WAC series against CSU Bakersfield on Saturday. With rain forecasted for Saturday, first pitch is now slated for 2 p.m. MT. The game will be streamed live on WolverineGreen.com/Watch.

GAME ONE
Brittney Vansway knocked in four runs and Lauren Frailey pitched a complete game in the circle to lead Utah Valley to a 6-2 win over CSU Bakersfield in game one of a double-header on Friday afternoon at Wolverine Field.

With the scored tied 1-1 in the bottom of the sixth inning, Utah Valley loaded the bases with one out before Kirsten Andersen singled to left field to send Kalli Suesue and Abbie Tuttle across the plate to give the Wolverines a 3-1 lead. UVU then loaded the bases again as Vansway doubled to left field to send Caragh Morris, Anderson and Kristy Snyder home to extend the UVU lead to a 6-1 advantage.

With the bases-clearing double in the bottom of the sixth, Vansway becomes UVU's all-time career RBI leader with 149, surpassing Amanda Perez's mark of 148 set in 2012.

The Wolverines then held CSU Bakersfield to just one run in the top of the seventh to secure the 6-2 win.

"That is exciting to hear that I surpassed the all-time RBI record," added Vansway. "I hit in a spot in the lineup where it's my job to drive runners in, and that's what I always try to achieve."

Frailey led Utah Valley in the circle as she pitched a complete game victory. The junior right-hander worked 7.0 innings while giving up just two runs and five hits. She hurled a season-high six strikeouts on the day. Frailey improves to 6-5 overall on the season.

Vansway led UVU at the plate with a perfect 4-for-4 performance with four RBIs. Basia Query went 2-for-3, while Andersen went 1-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.

GAME TWO
CSU Bakersfield scored five runs over the last three innings to overcome a 5-1 deficit to defeat Utah Valley 6-5 in the second game of a doubleheader on Friday afternoon at Wolverine Field.

Utah Valley got on the scoreboard early as Courtney Beavers got hit by a pitch and then stole second before Caragh Morris doubled to left center to send Beavers across the plate. Morris advanced to third on a Brittney Vansway groundout and then crossed the plate on a Lyndsay Steverson sacrifice fly to center field to give the Wolverines a 2-0 lead after one inning of play.

CSU Bakersfield got one back in the top of the third inning as Megan Marcy touched home on a Chris Hipa sacrifice fly to left field, cutting the UVU lead to a 2-1 advantage through three innings of play.

After holding the 'Runners scoreless in the top half of the fourth, Utah Valley opened the bottom half of the inning with runners on first and second and no outs when Taleigh Williams singled to left field to score Abbie Tuttle from second. Eryn Sustayta and Kirsten Andersen then each registered walks to send Kalli Suesue across the plate and re-load the bases. Morris was also walked to send Williams home for UVU's third run of the inning to give the Wolverines a 5-1 lead through four innings.

The Roadrunners scored two runs in the top of the fifth and two more in the top of the sixth to comeback and tie the game at 5-5. CSUB scored its two runs in the top of the fifth before loading the bases with one out. UVU was then able to get out of the inning with a double play at first place to keep the game tied.

After CSU Bakersfield scored a run in the top of the seventh inning to take a 6-5 lead, Utah Valley answered in the bottom half of the seventh as Vansway opened the inning with a triple to right field. With two outs, Taylor Miller then hit a fly ball to deep centerfield but Melanie Ostler, who was pinch running for Vansway, was called out on a CSUB appeal at third for leaving the base before the catch was made in center field, securing the 6-5 win for the Roadrunners.

Basia Query led the Wolverines with a 2-for-2 performance at the plate. She was also hit by a pitch in the game. Beavers went 1-for 2 with a run scored and a hit by pitch. Morris and Williams each went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Morris had a pair of RBIs, while Williams tallied one.

Bailey Moore was credited with the loss in the circle for UVU after going 2.2 innings with a pair of earned runs allowed. Moore allowed five hits and a walk while picking up one strikeout. Lauren Frailey opened the game and played 2.0 innings without giving up a run.
