UTAH VALLEY HOSTS WEBER STATE WEDNESDAY FOR SENIOR DAY
OREM, Utah –
The Utah Valley University softball team will welcome in-state foe Weber State to town for its final home game of the 2017 season on Wednesday. The contest will mark Senior Day for UVU and is set to begin at 1:30 p.m. MT at Wolverine Softball Field.

Live video as well as live stats will be available for the midweek non-conference contest by visiting WolverineGreen.com.

The Wolverines (15-21, 7-8 WAC) will enter the in-state rivalry game off of a key three-game sweep over league foe UMKC in Orem over the weekend to finish Western Athletic Conference play in a tie for third place and earn the two seed for the WAC Tournament. The 7-8 league record, tying for third in conference play, and clinching the two seed for the WAC Tournament all mark program highs for Utah Valley since joining the WAC prior to the 2014 season.

An offensive outburst along with solid pitching helped lead UVU to its first conference sweep in over three years last week. The Utah Valley offense combined to drive home 27 runs on 31 hits in the series en route to earning a pair of run-rule wins on the weekend. After pulling out a 6-4 win in game one, the Wolverines then drove home nine runs on the way to recording a 9-1 victory in game two and a 12-3 win in the series finale. Senior Brittney Vansway led the way by going 6-for-9 (.667) with two homers, a double, four RBIs and five runs scored, while senior Courtney Beavers, junior Taleigh Williams and freshman Basia Query all hit .500 apiece.

Junior Lauren Frailey and senior Bailey Moore each pitched well for the Wolverines in the series, as Frailey went 2-0 with a 3.50 while Moore went 1-0 with a 2.00 ERA. Both pitched a complete game outing as well, and Frailey earned WAC Pitcher of the Week honors for the third time on the year after giving up just five earned runs while scattering 13 hits and striking out two.

Frailey leads UVU in the circle on the season with an 11-8 record and a 3.03 ERA, while Vansway fronts the offense with a .414 batting average, 12 home runs and a league-leading 51 RBIs. After becoming Utah Valley's all-time RBI leader a couple of weeks ago, Vansway also set a new single-season RBI record in the UMKC series with her 51 runs batted in.

Vansway, Moore, Beavers, as well as fellow seniors and Utah Valley soccer greats Melanie Ostler and Kalli Suesue will all be honored as part of Senior Day following Wednesday's contest.

ABOUT WEBER STATE
The Wildcats sit at 30-14-1 on the year and in first place in the Big Sky standings with a 14-3 league record. Weber State has won six straight ballgames and nine of its last 10. It will enter Wednesday's midweek contest off of back-to-back Big Sky series sweeps over Idaho State and Southern Utah. WSU was picked to win the Big Sky this year after winning the conference last season and advancing to the NCAA Tournament in each of the last two seasons.

Takesha Saltern leads Weber State at the plate on the season with a .440 batting average, seven triples and 19 stolen bases (19-22), while the reigning Big Sky Hitter of the Week Sara Hingsberer is batting .355 with six home runs, 11 doubles and 42 RBIs. Kirtlyn Bohling and Tatiana Su'esu'e pace the WSU pitching staff with respective 17-10 and 13-3 records and 2.33 and 3.66 earned run averages.

Wednesday's midweek contest will mark the 27th all-time meeting between UVU and WSU. The Wolverines will enter play holding to a 15-11 series lead despite the fact that the Wildcats have won the last eight meetings.
