UTAH VALLEY CONTINUES ROAD PLAY AT UNLV, CSUN
The Utah Valley University women's soccer team will take on a pair of United Soccer Coaches Western Poll ranked teams this week as the Wolverines continue road play at UNLV and Cal State Northridge on Friday and Sunday.
Utah Valley returns to the pitch this week after opening the season with a 1-1 record at the OHANA Hotels by Outrigger Shootout last week in Hawaii. The team opened the year with a 2-1 overtime loss to Hawaii before bouncing back with a 2-1 win over Houston Baptist.
Breanna DeWaal led the Wolverines over the two matches, tallying two goals, 12 shots, and eight shots on goal. The sophomore midfielder notched the game-winning goal against Houston Baptist after recording UVU's first goal of the season in the loss to UH. DeWaal registered a .667 shots on goal percentage on the week.
Doriana Moul scored her first goal as a Wolverine in the win over Houston Baptist. The sophomore forward also recorded an assist and finished the week with three shots, including two on goal.
Amber Tripp and
Amanda Marshall also tallied an assist on the week.
The Utah Valley defense held Houston Baptist to just a penalty kick goal last week.
Hannah Bruce played nearly every minute of both matches on the backline last week, helping to anchor the Wolverine defense give up only 19 shots and six shots on goal by the team's two opponents last week.
Friday's match at UNLV will kickoff at 8 p.m. (MT), while the game at CSUN will get underway at 11 a.m. (MT) on Sunday.
ABOUT UNLV
UNLV opened the season with a pair of home wins last week over Drake and Wright State. The Rebels shutout Drake, 3-0, before downing Wright State, 5-1. UNLV registered an impressive eight goals over its two matches. Junior forward Amanda Galbraith led the Rebel attack with two goals and two assists for six points over the two games. She also fired six shots, including two on net. Sophomore forward Michaela Morris also registered a pair of goals and led UNLV with nine shots, including a team-best five on goal. Six different Rebels recorded a goal in the team's two matches. Senior keeper Jordan Sallee led the defensive effort in the box, compiling two wins, one shutout, and six saves on the week. UNLV is ranked 14th in the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Western Top-15 poll this week. The Rebels are coached by Chris Shaw who is in his fourth season with the team. He holds a 38-22-7 record in his time at UNLV and led his team to a Mountain West Conference title and NCAA appearance in 2016.

Utah Valley and UNLV meet on the pitch for just the sixth time on Friday evening. UNLV holds an all-time 3-2-0 record against the Wolverines, including a perfect 3-0-0 all-time mark against UVU in Las Vegas. UVU defeated UNLV 2-1 last year in Orem.

ABOUT CSUN
Cal State Northridge opened its 2017 campaign last week with a pair of draws against #24 Long Beach State and Pacific. The Matadors tied Long Beach State , 1-1, in double overtime on the road before returning home to play Pacific to a double-overtime 1-1 draw. Junior midfieler Marissa Favela and junior midfielder Kirsten Von Meter each tallied goals for CSUN. Favela led the team with 10 shots over the two matches, including a team-best six shots on goal. Freshman midfielder Avery DeWitt, senior forward Sylvia Trinh and freshman forward Payton Jo Armijo each recorded an assist on the week. Defensively, senior keeper Jovani McCaskill played all 220 minutes in goal, tallying the two ties, six saves and a .750 save percentage. CSUN is ranked No. 10 in this weeks United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Western Top-15 poll. The Matadors are coached by Keith West who is in his 12th season with the team. He holds a 98-98-24 record in his time at CSUN and most recently led the squad to a Big West regular season title in 2016.

Utah Valley and CSUN meet on the pitch for the second time on Sunday. The Matadors defeated Utah Valley 2-1 in double overtime in the only match ever played between the two teams in Orem on Sept. 10, 2004.

ON THE ROAD AGAIN
Utah Valley will be on the road for nearly a month before opening its home slate at Clyde Field on Sept. 8 against Wyoming. UVU will play four more road matches before making its Clyde Field debut. Following its two matches at UNLV and CSUN this week, Utah Valley will travel to Oklahoma to play Tulsa and Oral Roberts on Sept. 1 and 3, respectively.
DEWAAL NAMED WAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Breanna DeWaal was named the Western Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for her play Aug. 14-20. The honor marks the first time in her career that DeWaal has earned the award. DeWaal, from Sandy, Utah (Alta HS), helped the Wolverines to a 1-1-0 record last week at the OHANA Hotels by Outrigger Shootout in Hawaii. The sophomore midfielder scored her first goal of the season in a 2-1 overtime loss at Hawaii on Friday. She tallied eight shots against UH, including a match-best five on goal. DeWaal scored the game-winning goal in a 2-1 win over Houston Baptist in the 72nd minute on Sunday. She had four shots, including three on goal against HBU. DeWaal recorded two goals, four points, 12 shots, and eight shots on goal over the two matches. She was named to the Outrigger Shootout All Tournament team.

Tori Smith were named to the OHANA Hotels by Outrigger Shootout All Tournament team last week in Hawaii. The three players earned the honor after leading the Wolverines to a 1-1-0 record at the shootout. UVU dropped the tournament opener to Hawaii before defeating Houston Baptist.
DEWAAL NAMED TO PRESEASON ALL-WAC TEAM, WOLVERINES PICKED FOURTH IN WAC PRESEASON POLL
The Utah Valley University women's soccer team was selected to finish in a tie for fourth in the 2017 Western Athletic Conference Preseason Poll while sophomore midfielder
Breanna DeWaal was named to the WAC Preseason All-WAC team. The conference preseason poll and preseason awards were determined by the league's head coaches and announced Wednesday by the league.
After finishing fifth in the WAC standings last season with a 3-3-1 league record, UVU was projected to finish in a tie for fourth this year after receiving 32 points. The Seattle U Redhawks were picked to repeat as champions after winning both the WAC regular season and tournament titles in 2016. SU received seven first place votes for a total of 49 points. Kansas City was second in the poll with 36 points and one first place vote, while Grand Canyon was picked third with 34 points.
Utah Valley and CSU Bakersfield tied for the fourth spot with 32 points apiece, while UT Rio Grande Valley was sixth with 18 points. New Mexico State (15) and Chicago State (8) rounded out the poll in seventh and eighth, respectively.
DeWaal was named to the preseason all-WAC team after leading both the Wolverines and the WAC with 67 shots during her freshman season last year. She also led UVU with 23 shots on goal and ranked second on the team in both goals scored (4) and assists (4). DeWaal was the lone freshman named to the 2016 All-WAC first team. She was one of 11 WAC players to earn preseason all-WAC honors.

Chris Lemay. "She's a huge part of our program and orchestrates our attack. She's a two-sided player as she's a threat with her pass and her shot."
CSU Bakersfield's Sabrina Delgado was named the WAC's Preseason Offensive Player of the Year, while Seattle U's Stephanie Spiekerman earned Preseason Defensive Player of the Year honors.
