Wolverines host UC Riverside Saturday at 11 a.m. MT

OPENING TIP

  • Utah Valley University finishes up its brief, two-game homestand on Saturday at 11 a.m. MT against UC Riverside in the UCCU Center. It will be the first half of a doubleheader with the UVU men's team.
  • Jordan Holland was named the WAC Player of the Week on Monday after scoring a career-high 24 points while also grabbing 10 rebounds for a double-double in Saturday's contest at Utah State.
  • Utah Valley defeated Weber State, 65-59, on Tuesday in Lockhart Arena to snap a five-game skid and wrap up a string of playing each of the five other DI in-state schools in a span of six games.
  • Holland leads Utah Valley at 12.2 points while freshman Eve Braslis is averaging 10.2 points and a team-high 6.0 rebounds and junior Alexis Cortez is scoring 9.3 per contest.
  • UVU and UC Riverside have met just twice before with the last time coming in 2006, a one-point UCR win in Orem. The Highlanders are 2-0 all-time against Utah Valley.

LAST TIME OUT
Freshman Josie Williams scored 10 straight Utah Valley points in the fourth quarter of the win over Weber State. Williams finished with 12 points on 6-for-7 shooting while Holland scored 11 for the Wolverines.  Williams hit all five of her attempts from the field during the run, outscoring the Wildcats 10-2 during the stretch and turning a 53-50 deficit into a five-point lead. The Wolverines turned the ball over just eight times, a season low. Alexis Cortez blocked three shots for the second game, matching her career high, while also pulling down a career-high nine boards. Madison Grange's eight points was also a career high for the freshman.

ABOUT THE HIGHLANDERS
UC Riverside (4-7) has won two straight after routing Weber State, 71-39, on Thursday night in Ogden. The Highlanders raced out to a 26-6 lead after one quarter and held the Wildcats to just 24 percent shooting. UCR previously defeated Eastern Washington at a tournament in Kahului, Hawai'i, where UCR also played the current No. 23 team in the country, Texas A&M, to a seven-point game. Marina Ewodo leads the team with 11.5 points and 7.3 rebounds per game.

UP NEXT
The Wolverines will play their final non-conference game on Dec. 29 at Cal State Fullerton before opening WAC play Jan. 3 vs Grand Canyon at home.
