OREM, Utah – Trevor Howell hit a home run and had three of the team's seven hits, but the Utah Valley University baseball team fell to Brigham Young, 14-2, in the UCCU Crosstown Clash at UCCU Ballpark on Tuesday night.
 
With the loss, the Wolverines dropped to 9-13 for the year while BYU improved to 13-10. The Cougars piled up 13 hits to UVU's seven and both teams recorded two errors.
 
Paxton Schultz went 1.2 innings for the Wolverines before Brigham Young loaded the bases. Jake Carr came on in relief to get out of the inning, but BYU's Brennon Anderson hit a grand slam to deep left center field, giving the Cougars a 4-0 lead in the top of the second. BYU tacked on another run on a passed ball in the third.
 
Utah Valley got a run back as Trevor Peterson scored Michael Beltran on a fielder's choice in the bottom of the third. Howell added a solo homerun two innings later, but that would prove to be all the scoring for the Wolverines.
 
BYU proceeded to put up nine more runs through the rest of the game on the way to its win. Pitcher Kohl Hostert made his first appearance of the season for UVU through that stretch. Kody Hall also had his first at bat in a Wolverine uniform.
