UTAH VALLEY HEADS TO KANSAS CITY TO CONTINUE WAC PLAY AT UMKC
OREM, Utah –
Fresh off of a five-game homestand, the Utah Valley University softball team will return to the road this weekend for a three-game WAC series at conference foe UMKC.

With cold weather scheduled to hit the Kansas City area on Saturday, the series has been altered and the two will now play an afternoon doubleheader on Friday and the series finale on Saturday. Friday's twin bill is now set for 12 and 2 p.m. MT/1 and 3 p.m. CT, while Saturday's single game will take place at noon MT/1 p.m. CT. All three games will be played at Urban Youth Academy in Kansas City and will also be streamed live on the WAC Digital Network.

"Our focus is on WAC play right now. I feel like we've been playing well the last couple of weekend's in conference play," head UVU coach TJ Hubbard said. "If we can continue to compete collectively in all levels of the game, then I feel good about our chances this weekend at UMKC."

The Wolverines will enter the weekend series with a 10-22 overall record and in a tie for third place in the WAC standings with a 2-3 league record. After having last weekend's finale against Grand Canyon rained out and splitting a two-game series with the preseason favorite Antelopes, UVU then dropped a non-conference UCCU Crosstown Clash to neighboring rival BYU by a score of 11-0 at home on Tuesday.

Utah Valley had its best chance to score in the bottom of the first inning against the in-state Cougars when it loaded the bases with just one away. But BYU's Kerisa Viramontes managed to escape the jam by retiring both Basia Query and Madison Sisco with back-to-back infield pop-ups to keep the Wolverines off of the board.

As a team, UVU collected just three hits on the day. Brianna Moeller, Lyndsay Steverson, and Karly Bunderson all singled for the Wolverines in the midweek contest against the preseason West Coast Conference favorite Cougars.

Prior to the BYU game, Utah Valley split a two-game series at home against GCU. Behind a complete-game outing from Addie Jensen, the Wolverines took game one, 5-3, before dropping game two by a score of 4-1 as three costly errors doomed UVU in the ballgame. Game three of the series was then washed out due to rain and will not be made up.

Freshman first baseman Peyton Angulo paces the Wolverines at the plate on the season with a .384 average, nine doubles, three homers and 16 RBIs, while sophomore second baseman Lyndsay Steverson leads the way in the power numbers with four home runs and 21 RBIs. Junior right-hander Addie Jensen fronts the UVU pitching staff with a 6-9 record and a 3.19 ERA. She also holds a 2-1 win-loss record in WAC play, while senior Makayla Shadle leads the way with a 2.14 ERA in conference-only play.

ABOUT UMKC
The Kangaroos will enter the series with a 10-28 overall record and an 0-6 start in WAC play. Kansas City has dropped six straight games, after being swept at home by first-place New Mexico State on March 30-31 and being swept again at second-place Seattle U last week. UMKC currently sits in sixth place in the standings and was picked to finish fifth in the league this season.

Sydney Garcia paces the Roos at the plate with a .292 average and a perfect 12-for-12 in steals, while Olivia Fluehr leads the way in the power numbers with seven homers and 28 RBIs. Fluehr also front the team in the circle with a 4-7 win-loss record and a 4.59 ERA.

ALL-TIME SERIES VS. UMKC
Friday's opener will mark the 18th all-time meeting between the Wolverines and Roos. UMKC will enter play holding to a 10-7 series advantage, but UVU swept all three games in Orem a season ago before Kansas City eliminated Utah Valley from the WAC Tournament in Las Cruces last season.

ON DECK FOR UVU
Following the series, the Wolverines will return to the state of Utah for an in-state midweek contest at Utah State on Wednesday, April 18, before returning home to host the first-place NM State Aggies for a three-game league series next weekend (April 20-21).
