UTAH VALLEY TRAVELS TO BAKERSFIELD FOR FINAL WAC SERIES
OREM, Utah – The Utah Valley University softball team will travel to Bakersfield, California this weekend for its final Western Athletic Conference series of the season at CSU Bakersfield. The three-game league series will open with a doubleheader on Friday beginning at 3 p.m. MT/2 p.m. PT, and the weekend will close with a single game on Saturday at 2 p.m. MT/1 p.m. PT.
Â
All three games will be streamed live on the
WAC Digital Network and will also feature live stats by visiting
GoRunners.com.
Â
The Wolverines (16-24, 7-4 WAC) will enter the final series currently in third place in the WAC standings and could potentially move into second place and receive a first-round bye for the WAC Tournament with a series sweep. CSUB will enter the series with a 6-33 overall record and currently in fifth place in the conference standings with a 3-9 league ledger. In another key series on the weekend, New Mexico State and Seattle U will battle it out for the regular season championship in Las Cruces this weekend. The two teams will enter the series tied for first with identical 9-3 conference records.
Â
UVU will enter the final league series having won six of its last eight ballgames, which includes a three-game sweep at UMKC and taking two-of-three over the first-place NM State Aggies at home last weekend. The Wolverines took the opener over NMSU 9-7, as well as split the doubleheader on Saturday with a 5-3 setback and a 7-6 victory in the finale thanks to a walk-off RBI single from
Kaylee Bott in the last of the seventh inning to help propel Utah Valley to its first series win in program history over the Aggies.
Â
Following the NM State series, UVU most recently dropped a tightly contested 4-3 decision to in-state foe Weber State in non-conference action on Tuesday in Ogden. The Wolverines held a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning of the ballgame, but WSU's Courtney Petsky managed to drive out the go-ahead two-run home run in the last of the fifth inning en route to leading the Wildcats to the 4-3 come-from-behind victory.
Â
Despite falling for the third time on the season to the defending Big Sky champion Wildcats,
Basia Query recorded a three-hit ballgame for the Wolverines on Tuesday by going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs batted in.
Brianna Moeller and
Lyndsay Steverson too had multi-hit outings by each recording two hits apiece.
Â
Moeller leads UVU on the season with a .376 batting average, while freshman
Peyton Angulo is next with a solid .354 clip. Steverson paces the Wolverines in RBIs with 26 and
Madison Sisco leads the way in round trippers with six. The one-two punch of
Addie Jensen and
Makayla Shadle pace UVU in the circle, as Jensen holds a 9-9 record and a 3.35 ERA while Shadle is right behind her with a 5-8 win-loss mark and a 3.59 ERA.
