OREM—Utah Valley wrapped up its home slate with a 12-6 loss to in-state rival Utah on Tuesday night at UCCU Ballpark.

The Wolverines fall to 15-34 overall, while Utah improves to 14-35 on the season. Utah Valley will close out its 2018 schedule, May 17-19, at Sacramento State.

Utah took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Oliver Dunn crossed the plate after Erick Migueles put the bat on the ball on a fielder's choice.

Utah Valley got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second
Drew Sims singled through the left side to score
Paul Estrada, who had reached second on a double to left field.
Michael Beltran then singled through the left side to score
Callahan Moltzan, giving the Wolverines a 2-1 lead after four innings of play.

Utah put up eight runs in the top half of the fifth inning as Rykker Tom got things started with a double to left field, which advanced Oliver Dunn to second after reaching on a base on balls. Chandler Anderson then reached on a UVU fielding error. Wade Gulden then loaded the bases with a walk to first. Dominic Foscalina then reached on a fielder's choice that advanced the runners and pushed Migueles across the plate. Shea Kramer hit a two-RBI single to left center that scored both Matt Richardson and Anderson. A Dunn single to left center then scored DaShawn Keirsey and Kramer. The eight runs lifted the Utes to a 9-2 lead after four and a half innings.

Utah Valley got one back in the bottom of the seventh as Moltzan tripled to right center and then scored on a Utah throwing error to cut the Utah lead to a 9-3 advantage. The Utes put two more runs across the plate in the top of the eighth as Wade Guiden hit a two-run homer over the right field fence to give Utah an 11-3 lead.

The Wolverines answered with three runs in the bottom half of the eighth as Coltzan hit a two-RBI double to center that scored both Estrada and Modler.
Trevor Peterson then singled up the middle to send Moltzan across the plate, cutting the Utah advantage to an 11-6 lead.

Utah wrapped up the ninth with one run on a Keirsey home run over the center field wall. With the run, Utah upped its lead to a 12-6 advantage. The Utes then held the Wolverines scoreless in the bottom of the ninth to hold on to the 12-6 win.

Moltzan led the Wolverines at the plate with a 2-for-3 performance. He tallied two runs with a pair of RBI. He also recorded one walk, a double, and a triple. Howell went 2-for-5 with a pair of doubles.

Jake Carr and
Travis Parker each pitched an inning without giving up a run. The pair each gave up only one hit.

Utah Valley now travels to the Golden State to wrap up the 2018 season against Sacramento State, May 17-19.
