OREM, Utah – Fresh off of a second-place finish in WAC play and a postseason appearance at the National Invitational Softball Championship this past spring, the 2018-19 Utah Valley University softball team will open fall exhibition play by hosting in-state rival Southern Utah on Saturday, Sept. 29.
The fall exhibition opener will begin at 1 p.m. MT and will be contested at Wolverine Softball Field. Admission for all scrimmages played at Wolverine Softball Field this fall will be free of charge.
After going 21-31 overall and posting a program-best 10-4 WAC record in 2018, the Wolverines will welcome back eight starters and a total of 12 letterwinners to the fold this season. UVU will also mix in 11 newcomers in 2018-19, which includes three collegiate transfers and eight true freshmen.
A season ago, Utah Valley earned both WAC Freshman and Pitcher of the Year honors for the second straight season when first baseman
Peyton Angulo was tabbed the Freshman of the Year and
Makayla Shadle earned Pitcher of the Year accolades. Head coach
TJ Hubbard also earned WAC Coach of the Year honors in 2018 after leading his Wolverines to the second place finish in conference play and the program-best 10-4 league record.
Angulo, who also earned first team All-WAC accolades a season ago, is back for UVU this season as well as fellow reigning first team all-conference selection

Abbie Tuttle.
Saturday's exhibition opener, will mark the first of four home games for UVU this fall. The Wolverines will also host home contests against Salt Lake CC on Saturday Oct. 6 (12 p.m. MT), Saturday, Oct. 13 versus Weber State (12 p.m. MT), and Sunday, Oct. 14 against Boise State (11:30 a.m. MT). UVU will also play road contests at Utah on Oct. 3, at BYU on Oct. 12, at Dixie State on Oct. 27, and a neutral-site contest versus the College of Southern Nevada in St. George on Oct. 27.
