Wolverines to Host Tarleton State for Senior Weekend

4/16/2026 12:00:00 PM

Utah Valley returns home for its final homestand of the season, hosting the Tarleton State Texans for a three-game Senior Weekend series on Friday and Saturday at Wolverine Softball Field.

First pitch of Friday's doubleheader has been pushed up to 2 p.m. MDT, with game two following approximately 30 minutes after. Saturday's game is still slated for 12 p.m. MDT, with various senior day festivities taking place both before and after the game.

Utah Valley will be honoring its eight graduating seniors this weekend: Angelique Mann, Kendyl Purdy, Mya Higareda, Hannah Ortega, Emma Haygood, Britney Moreno, Payge Armendariz, and Bailey Marvin. UVU's eight seniors are the team's most since 2018.

LAST TIME OUT
Utah Valley rallied to earn a series win over ACU, overcoming a five-run 6th inning deficit to win 8-7 in the finale, the team's largest deficit overcome in a win this season. The Wolverines and Wildcats split the first to, with UVU winning game one, 11-1 in five innings, with ACU returning the favor with an 11-2 run-rule win in game two.

IF Britney Moreno led the charge last week, going 5-for-10 with a HR, 3B, 6 walks, 3 RBIs, and 6 runs. Moreno hit the game-tying triple in Saturday's win over ACU, which also tied the UVU single-season record of 6. Moreno enters this weekend on a 20-game reached base streak and a 12-game hitting streak. Both are the longest since Madison Carr in 2022, when she had a program-record 31-game reached base streak and a 12-game hitting streak.

2B Tatum Hall had what proved to be the game-winning hit against ACU on Saturday, an RBI double just over the LF. Hall didn't quite have the big bat she had over the previous week, but still went 5-for-12 with three RBIs and four walks. Entering this weekend, Hall is sitting on 44 RBIs for the year, tied for seventh-most in a single season in program history and eight behind the single-season record of 52 set by Brittney Vansway.

OF Megan Sterzer provided some much-needed thump lower down in the lineup, hitting a three-run home run in Friday's win over ACU and leading the team with five RBIs last week.

Emma Haygood and Angelique Mann came through in the clutch last week, with each driving in four over last week's four games. Mann drove in two of UVU's four runs in last Tuesday's win over BYU.

HIGH-OCTANE MATCHUP ON TAP
This weekend's series features two of the top offenses in the WAC. Utah Valley and Tarleton State rank one-two in batting average, hits, and RBIs, The Wolverines have the decisive edge in extra-base hits, with a WAC-leading 124, while the Texans rank fourth with 108. Two of the top young aces in the WAC will also go toe-to-toe in sophomores Lily Riley and Shelby Schultz. Schultz and Riley have the third- and fourth-best ERAs in the league respectively at 3.43 and 3.54.

SERIES HISTORY VS TARLETON STATE
UVU leads the all-time series 6-4, but the Texans have won the last four, all of which came in 2025. TSU swept the Wolverines in Stephenville, winning game one, 5-1, before taking the last two, 2-1. The Texans took game two on a walk-off two-run homer after UVU was two outs away from a 1-0 win. The Texans ended UVU's season in 2025, winning 4-0 in the WAC semis behind a complete game shutout from Hannah Blincoe. UVU is 6-0 all-time against TSU in Orem, taking series sweeps in 2021 and 2024.

MORENO STARING DOWN ANOTHER TRIPLES RECORD
With her next triple, Britney Moreno will break the UVU single-season triples record. On Saturday against ACU, Moreno matched the record of 6, set by Chris Jimenez in 2005, and moved into the top 10 all-time in WAC history. On March 21 vs Utah Tech, Moreno broke UVU's D-I era triples record with the 12th of her career. Entering this week, Moreno ranks t-5th nationally with 6 triples this season, as well as t-12th among active D-I players for their career with 13.

DO NOT DISTURB
During Saturday's comeback win over ACU, Coach Thomson took extra measures to get the Wolverine bats going (all in good fun). Before the 6th inning, Thomson knocked over all of the team's bats in the dugout, gave them a few kicks, and forbade the players from picking them up until it was their time to hit because the bats "needed to wake up." The bats definitely did wake up, as the Wolverines erased a 5-run deficit for their largest comeback of the season, scoring 4 in the 7th to win 8-7.

VERY NICE, THANK YOU FOR THE SACRIFICE
Utah Valley has been one of the top teams in the country at manufacturing runs with less than two outs, ranking 4th in sacrifice flies with 23. That mark is a school record, surpassing the previous high of 21 set in 2021.

KEEPING IT .400
Entering this weekend, Utah Valley has two hitters hitting .400 or better in Tatum Hall (.436) and Britney Moreno (.431). Since becoming full-status D-I members in 2010, Utah Valley has had just one hitter hit .400 or better for a full season, Madison Carr in 2022. Carr set the single-season hits record with 82 en route to a .453 batting average.

UP NEXT
Utah Valley will host Utah State on Tuesday for the final home game of the 2026 season, with first pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. MDT. The Wolverines will then turn right around and head to Pocatello, Idaho to face the Idaho State Bengals on Wednesday at 4 p.m. MDT.
