OGDEN, Utah - The 2019 indoor track season began for the Wolverines as they competed at the annual Weber State Invitational, where five UVU track athletes grabbed first-place finishes.
The Utah Valley women's track and field team marked a solid opening to season, starting the two-day meet off with a sweeping victory in the 3000m race.
Taylor Viertel claimed first-place (10:21.34), followed by
Maggie Zwahlen in second (10:21.40) and
Mazzie Melaney in third-place (10:27.92). UVU's 4x400 meter relay team posted a silver-place finish at a time of 4:05.48, the group consisting of
Larissa Dabb,
Julia Hunt,
Abby Garlock and
Kimball Clements. Dabb also grabbed second-place individually in the 400m dash (59.56).
From the field for the women,
Olivia Neal took a first-place medal in the pole vault (10-11.75) alongside teammate
Taygin DeHart in her triple jump campaign in first (33-11.50).
Savanna Reilly Routsong stood alongside these two Wolverines on the top podium for her 16.11 (52-10.25) mark in the weight throw.
The UVU men's track and field team kick-started with first-place finished from
Caleb Furnell in the 200m dash (22.44),
Seth Dabb in the 400m dash (49.87), a three-way sweep in the 3000m run from
Kevin Lynch (8:36.20),
Geofrey Kemboi (8:39.48) and
Adrian Jones (8:39.81).
In the field for the men,
Aiden Garnett was victorious in the high jump with a mark at 2.00m (6-06.75) alongside
Seth Krauss with the same mark 2.00m (6-06.75).
Aaron Johnson claimed first in the long jump 7.09m (23-03.25), moving himself into the fourth all-time spot in UVU records.
Albert MacArthur was first in triple jump, 14.99m.
Utah Valley takes the remainder of December off before returning back to action in Utah at the BYU Inviational, January 10-11.
