OREM, Utah -- Utah Valley University's
Blake Frischknecht was named to the United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division I Men's All-Far West Region first team while teammate
Ahmed Longmire was named to the third team, it was announced on Monday.
Frischknecht was named the WAC Offensive Player of the Year and first-team All-WAC after a WAC-leading 13 goals while also leading the nation with seven game-winning goals. His goals scored and total points (27) are both single-season school records. Longmire was a first-team All-WAC selection at defender after a season in which he spent every minute of Utah Valley's season on the pitch, nearly 2,000 minutes of action.
"It's a well-earned and deserved recognition for both Blake and Ahmed to receive USC All-Far West Region team honors," UVU head coach
Greg Maas said. "Blake and Ahmed have a strong competitive nature and distinct qualities on the pitch that helped to lead our team's success all season long, and our entire team can take tremendous pride in our players and program being recognized at such a prestigious level."
This year marks the first time since the 2016 season that Utah Valley has had a first-team selection and multiple selections. The two picks in 2019 give Utah Valley 13 All-Region selections in the program's six-year Division I history. The Far West Region consists of teams from the WAC, Pac 12 and Big West Conference.
