UVU hosts Seattle U Saturday afternoon in UCCU Center

OPENING TIP

  • In what will be just the second game in the last 10 days, Utah Valley University women's basketball tips off the second half of the WAC regular season on Saturday at 3 p.m. against Seattle University in the UCCU Center.
  • The Wolverines are 11-10 overall and 5-3 in the WAC, which marks the team's best eight-game start in league play since joining the conference in 2013.
  • UVU is currently in a four-way tie in second place in the WAC -- two games behind New Mexico State -- with UMKC, UT Rio Grande Valley and CSU Bakersfield. Utah Valley and Kansas City are both idle on Thursday with CSUB at NM State and UTRGV hosting Grand Canyon.
  • Jordan Holland is averaging 13.4 points and 5.9 rebounds for the Wolverines, while Eve Braslis is scoring 10.1 points and grabbing a team-high 6.1 boards. Alexis Cortez is just shy of being the third player to average in double figures, with 9.6 per contest.
  • Seattle leads the all-time series 10-5 and had won five straight prior to the Wolverines earning a 58-55 win in the team's prior meeting this season on Jan. 12. The teams have split the six games played in Orem.

LAST TIME OUT
Behind a big second half, California Baptist University topped Utah Valley University, 83-54, on Jan. 31 in Riverside. Utah Valley got 12 points apiece from Jordan Holland and Emma Jones, who hit 5-of-6 from the field. UVU trailed 39-34 after the first 20 minutes but was outscored 44-20 in the second half. CBU attempted 44 shots from three in the game, hitting 16, with Emma Meriggioli hitting 6-for-9 from three and finishing with 21 points to lead the Lancers.

ABOUT THE REDHAWKS
Seattle U enters Saturday's game at 1-7 in league play after seeing a fourth-quarter run by California Baptist thwart the Redhawks attempt at earning a road win in league play. Utah Valley won the prior meeting against Seattle U on Jan. 12, 58-55, in what was the Wolverines' first road win of the season. Braslis finished with 18 to lead all scorers in the game while Holland finished with 13 points and nine rebounds. Joana Alves led Seattle with 17.

UP NEXT
Saturday's game begins a three-game homestand for the Wolverines, which concludes next week with games against New Mexico State (Feb. 14) and UT Rio Grande Valley (Feb. 16). Both games will be played in Lockhart Arena.
