EDINBURG, Texas – Utah Valley University got another good start on the mound but UT Rio Grande Valley earned a share of the WAC regular season title after erupting for 12 runs in its final two at-bats to win 12-2 in eight innings on Saturday afternoon.

The Wolverines will enter next week's WAC Tournament as the No. 6 seed and face No. 3 seed Sacramento State on Wednesday at 6 p.m. PT/7 p.m. MT from Hohokam Park in Mesa, Arizona.

The Vaqueros (34-19, 19-8) will share the conference's regular season championship with New Mexico State and California Baptist. NM State will be the No. 1 seed and UTRGV will go in as the No 2 seed. Both teams will receive first-round byes.

Saturday's contest differed from the first two games of the series, each of which were one-run wins for UTRGV, but all three games ended as walk-off wins for the home team.

In Saturday's contest, the Wolverines (14-39, 9-18) led 2-0 after playing two runs in the second inning. Mick Madsen led off with a double and moved to third when Skyler Davis singled to center. Kade Poulsen walked to load the bases and Paul Estrada drove home Madsen and Davis with a single to center.

UVU starter Walker Ramsey retired the first 10 hitters he faced before a one-out single in the fourth and allowed just two hits through his first six innings of work. He pitched into seventh and surrendered two runs on three hits with a pair of strikeouts and did not factor into the decision.

In the seventh, Tyler Torres led off the inning with a home run to left to get UTRGV on the board. The Vaqueros sent 13 hitters to the plate and scored the eight runs on six hits, taking advantage of four walks in the inning.

UT Rio Grande Valley added four more in the eighth to end the game via the 10-run rule. Two of the runs scored on bases-loaded walks and another on a hit batter with the bases full. A sacrifice fly by Hunter Lessard drove in the 12th run and ended the contest.

The Vaqueros took advantage of 10 walks by UVU pitching, with seven of those coming in the final two innings. Madsen and Davis had two hits apiece to lead Utah Valley. Torres and Christian Sepulveda drove in three runs each for UTRGV.

Utah Valley's tournament opener against Sac State next Wednesday will be the second game of the day. No. 4 Grand Canyon and No. 5 CSU Bakersfield will open play with a 2 p.m. PT start. A Wolverine win on Wednesday would pit them against New Mexico State on Thursday at 7 p.m. PT while a loss would set them up for an elimination contest on Thursday at 11 a.m. PT.
