UTAH VALLEY OPENS HOME SLATE AGAINST CAL POLY, CAL STATE FULLERTON AT CLYDE FIELD
Utah Valley will open its 2019 home slate on Friday against Cal Poly and Monday against Cal State Fullerton. The Wolverines will take on Cal Poly on Friday at 5 p.m. before welcoming Cal State Fullerton to Clyde Field on Monday at 1 p.m.
The Wolverines head into the week after losing a pair of matches in the Great Lakes State last week. The team dropped a 3-1 decision at Michigan State before falling at Michigan, 2-1, in overtime. It marked the first time in school history that UVU has faced teams from the Big Ten Conference. Amber Trip led the offensive effort last week against Michigan State and Michigan as she found the back of the net in each match.
Through two matches this season, Tripp leads the team in goals (2), points (4), shots (5), and shots on goal (5).
Jocelyn Bybee has UVU's lone assist this year, while
Sadie Brockbank and
Julianna Carter rank second on the team with three shots apiece. Defensively,
Allie Jara has played both of UVU's matches in the box. Jara leads the team with nine saves on the season.
THE LOWDOWN ON UVU
Utah Valley returns 12 letterwinners and six starters from last year's squad that made a run to the semifinals of the WAC Tournament. The Wolverines welcome back second-team all-WAC honorees
Hannah Bruce and
Madeline Moore to the squad. 2017 first team all-WAC honoree
Breanna DeWaal also returns to the team after returning from an LDS Church mission in Romania. Leading scorer and point getter
Sadie Brockbank also returns to the pitch for her sophomore season.
Bruce was a defensive force for the Wolverines in 2018, starting all 21 of UVU's matches last season. She helped anchor the UVU back line to four shutouts during WAC play. She also had one assist and five shots in 2018. Bruce led the team in minutes with 1,852 and earned second team All-WAC honors last season. Moore started and played in each of UVU's 21 matches last season. The midfielder tallied one assist, 14 shots, and three shots on goal in 2018. She played a major factor in UVU's four shutouts last year on the defensive end. Moore ranked second on the team in minutes played at 1,696.
DeWaal led Utah Valley to a WAC Tournament title and the team's second trip to the NCAA Tournament in 2017. She was named the WAC Tournament MVP and led the team with nine goals, six assists, and 24 points in 2017. She also earned All-WAC first team honors and was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-West Region Team.
Brockbank posted eight goals and four assists for a team-high 20 points last year. She also led the team with 58 shots, including 25 on goal in 2018.
UVU IN HOME OPENERS
The Wolverines hold an all-time 7-6-3 record in home openers. The Wolverines have a five-game unbeaten streak in home openers dating back to a 2-1 win over Baylor on Aug. 29, 2014. UVU has also won five of its last eight home openers.

UVU DROPS HEART-BREAKER IN OVERTIME AT MICHIGAN, 2-1
Utah Valley gave Big Ten foe Michigan all it could handle on Sunday afternoon, playing the Wolverines to a 1-1 tie in regulation before falling 2-1 in overtime at U-M Soccer Field.
Michigan was first to get on the scoreboard as Raleigh Loughman got the ball past the goal line in the 29th minute to give UM at 1-0 lead.
Utah Valley tied the game at 1-1 in the 54th minute after
Amber Tripp picked off UM's center back and went one-on-one with the keeper and slotted the ball underneath her for the goal.
After playing to a 1-1 tie in regulation, Michigan's Sara Stratigakis broke loose inside the box and found the net to give UM the game-winner in the 93rd minute.
Michigan out-shot Utah Valley 16-5 on the day, including an 8-5 advantage on goal. The Wolverines tallied four corner kicks to Michigan's two. Tripp led UVU with two shots, both of which were on goal.

CLYDE FIELD MAGIC
Utah Valley holds an impressive 74-38-11 all time record at Clyde Field. The team has lost just seven matches over the past five seasons on the home pitch. UVU suffered its first losing record at home in 2018, going 3-4-1. UVU went 5-1-0 in 2017, 5-2-1 during the 2016 season and were unbeaten at home during the 2015 season with a 9-0-1 mark. UVU has consistently ranked in the top-40 nationally in attendance.
ABOUT CAL POLY
Cal Poly continues its season-opening road stretch by visiting the Wolverines on Friday and Utah on Sunday. The Big West Conference team opened the season last week with a 0-0 tie at San Jose State before dropping a 3-1 decision at Sacramento State. Brooke Oleson scored the Mustangs' lone goal of the week in the 54th minute at Sacramento State. The goal was the first of her career. The team picked up the shutout tie against San Jose State in the season opener. Keepers Emily Talmi and Kylie Rojas shared minutes in the 110-minute match.
ALL-TIME SERIES HISTORY VS. CAL POLY
Utah Valley and Cal Poly will meet on the pitch on Friday for just the second time in the two team's histories. The first meeting came last season with UVU taking a 3-2 victory on Cal Poly's home pitch.
ABOUT CAL STATE FULLERTON
Cal State Fullerton went 1-1-0 last week at home to open the 2019 season. The team dropped a 4-1 decision at Arizona State before picking up a 2-0 shutout victory over Minnesota. The team will host Northern Colorado on Friday before traveling to play the Wolverines on Monday. Maddie Bennett and Haley Brown lead the team with three points apiece as each scored a goal and made an assist last week. Noa Schumacher led the team in the box as she played all 180 minutes in goal last week. She picked up a shutout victory. Fullerton was picked to finish fourth this season in the Big West Conference preseason poll.

Utah Valley and Cal State Fullerton will meet on the pitch for just the second time on Monday afternoon. Fullerton won that match 3-0 on Sept. 10, 2017 in Fullerton.

Utah Valley was selected to finish fourth in the 2019 Western Athletic Conference Preseason Poll and UVU players
Breanna DeWaal and
Hannah Bruce were named to the Preseason All-WAC team.
UVU was projected to finish fourth after receiving one first place vote for a total of 46 points. The Wolverines finished just two points behind UT Rio Grande Valley, which received 48 points. Seattle U was selected to win the conference as the team received six of the first place votes for 61 total points. Kansas City tallied two first place votes and received 52 points to claim the second spot. Grand Canyon (34) was picked fifth, followed by CSU Bakersfield (31) in sixth, and New Mexico State (22) and California Baptist (22) tied for seventh. Chicago State received eight points to finish ninth.
