OPENING TIP
Utah Valley University looks to rebound from its first WAC loss when the Wolverines welcome Grand Canyon University on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. MT in the UCCU Center. The game will wrap up a short, two-game homestand with the Wolverines next two contests on the road.
UVU (8-10) saw its seven-game win streak and unbeaten conference record end in a heartbreaking, 55-53, loss to CSU Bakersfield on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer.
Jordan Holland led the Wolverines with 20 points while
Alexis Cortez added 11 and
Maria Carvalho finished with nine.
Holding a 53-47 lead with under three minutes remaining, the Wolverines saw CSUB score the last eight points of the game including a 3-pointer as the horn sounded by Andie Easley. Thursday's setback was UVU's first loss since Dec. 17.
The seven-game win streak matched the program's second-longest win streak of the NCAA Division I era. UVU's 5-0 WAC start was also the program's best since joining the league in 2013. The 5-1 record is the best six-game start to league play for the Wolverines.
Holland enters Saturday's game just two points shy of reaching 1,000 for her career. She'll be the program's eighth player to achieve the mark during the NCAA DI era.Â
