NAMPA, Idaho – The Utah Valley University track & field teams put together a very strong showing at Boise State's Ed Jacoby Invitational on Friday and Saturday at Jackson's Indoor Track in Nampa, Idaho. In all, the Wolverines combined to win an impressive tally of seven events at the 21-team meet.
Senior transfer
Larry Still had one of the strongest performances of the meet for UVU, by shattering the men's pole vault school record by nearly a foot by clearing 5.30m (17-04.50). The impressive mark was good enough to win the event and currently rank as the 15th-best vault in the nation this season. It is also marks the top height in the WAC for the 2019-20 indoor season.
Meridian, Idaho native and senior
Adrian Jones also had an impressive outing for the Wolverines by winning both the 1-mile run and the 3000m run. Jones took home gold in the 1-mile run by finishing with an impressive time of 4:14.91. He then followed that up later in the day by also winning the 3000m run with a blazing time of 8:28.12.
Aaron Johnson too had a strong showing by winning the men's long jump. Johnson managed to leap 7.34m (24-01.00) en route to winning the men's long jump. Johnson had an impressive meet, as he also led the team in both the 60m and 200m dashes. Johnson tied for second in the 60 with a stellar time of 6.91 seconds and also placed fourth in the 200 with a time of 22.01.
In the jumps, senior
Albert MacArthur also performed well by winning the men's triple jump and posting a third-place finish in the long jump. MacArthur took home the gold in the triple by landing 15.59m (51-01.75). He then followed that up by taking third in the long jump with a leap of 7.04m (23-01.25).
The women's team claimed a pair of first-place finishes at the meet with
Mazzie Melaney winning the 3000m run, as well as the tandem of Melaney, Suzy Robertson,
Lexi MacArthur, and
Taylor Viertel taking first in the distance medley relay. Melaney posted a stellar time of 10:08.53 en route to winning the 3000m run, while Melaney, Robertson, MacArthur, and Viertel teamed up to win the distance medley relay on Friday night with a time of 12:10.42. Viertel also had a strong race in the women's 1-mile run on Saturday by placing fifth with an impressive time of 5:01.03.

Larry Still did in the pole vault," head UVU coach
Scott Houle said. "Overall, our athletes performed really well and I'm very pleased with how we competed."
In the hurdles, fellow Meridian, Idaho native
Andre Jones led the way by taking third in the men's 60m hurdles with a time of 8.27 seconds. Jones actually set a personal record in the prelims of the event by qualifying for the finals with a stellar time of 8.24.
Zane Farrer too had a strong outing in the 60m hurdles by finishing right behind Jones in fourth place with a time of 8.32.
In the sprints,
Julia Hunt paced the women's squad by taking fourth in the 60m dash with a time of 7.82 seconds, while
Secret McEuen led the way in the 200m dash by placing sixth (25.40), and
Larissa Dabb paced the team in the 400 by taking 11th (58.57). Her brother
Seth Dabb led the men's team by claiming a second-place finish in the 400m dash with a time of 49.40.
In the distance events,
Britain Reynolds and
Kevin Lynch too ran well in the men's 3000m run by taking second and seventh with respective times of 8:30.13 and 8:42.21. Daniel Bausch also had a strong outing in the 1-mile run by taking ninth (4:18.67). On the women's side,
Emily Jones and
Hannah Branch finished in fourth and fifth in the 3000m run with times of 10:16.25 and 10:16.84.
In the jumping events,
Seth Krauss and
Aiden Garnett paced the men's team by tying for second in the high jump by each clearing 2.01m (6-07.00).
Briana Dusenberry led the women's squad with a sixth-place finish in the women's high jump (1.61m/5-03.25), while
Berkley Berrett finished seventh in the women's pole vault (3.40m/11-01.75).
In the throwing events,
Savanna Reilly Routsong led the women's squad by placing ninth in the women's weight throw with a toss of 15.59m (51-01.75), while
Kyle Routsong took 12th in the men's weight throw (14.06m/46-01.50).
In the final event of the meet, the relay team of
Jacob Deming, MacArthur,
Isaac Manning, and
Jordan Daw put together a third-place finish in the men's 4x400m relay by combining for a time of 3:21.87. The women's tandem of
Larissa Dabb,
Amy Ballard, Hunt, and
Abby Garlock placed sixth in the women's event with a time of 3:56.37.
A total of 21 teams took part in the Ed Jacoby Invitational with UVU, Boise State, Hawaii, Nevada, Portland State, San Francisco, UC Santa Barbara, Utah State, Weber State, Alaska Anchorage, College of Idaho, Concordia (Oregon), Eastern Oregon, Northwest Christian, Northwest Nazarene, Oregon Tech, San Francisco State, Southern Idaho, Stanislaus State, Western Washington, and Westmont all competing at the two-day indoor meet.
Jackson's Indoor Track will mark the home of the 2020 WAC Indoor Championships that will take place on Feb. 28-29 in Nampa, Idaho.
The Wolverines will next head to Colorado Springs, Colorado, to take part at the Air Force Team Challenge on Friday, Feb. 7. The Weber State Invitational will then follow on Feb. 13-14 in Ogden.
